Inorganic Arsenic Exposure Decreases Muscle Mass and Enhances Denervation-Induced Muscle Atrophy in Mice

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
Arsenic is a toxic metalloid. Infants with a low birth-weight have been observed in areas with high-level arsenic in drinking water ranging from 463 to 1025 μg/L.

A Millimeter‐Scale Implantable Magneto–Mechano–Electric Transducer Based on BTO Piezoelectric Ceramics for Remote Wireless Electrical Stimulation of Injured Sciatic Nerves

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We report a fully wireless, circuit‐free neural stimulator built on a millimetric magneto‐mechano‐electric (MME) cantilever transducer (3 × 10 × 5 mm) with a barium titanate (BTO) piezoelectric ceramic core. Under low‐frequency alternating magnetic fields, the MME cantilever mechanically oscillates, inducing stress on the BTO element and thereby ...

TDP‐43 Aggregation: The Healthy‐Toxic Balance of the Prion‐Like Domain

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
TDP‐43 function relies on a delicate balance between reversible phase‐separated states and irreversible aggregation. Under physiological conditions, TDP‐43 forms dynamic droplets and oligomers that support normal cellular functions. In pathological contexts, this balance shifts toward aberrant aggregation, leading to toxic species.

Electrically Conductive and Topographically Engineered PLCL Nerve Guidance Conduits for Facial Nerve Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
A bio‐integrated nerve guidance conduit is developed for facial nerve regeneration by combining electrospun aligned PLCL nanofibers with a conductive tannic acid/polypyrrole‐based hydrogel coating. This optimized scaffold provides synergistic topographical cues and supports electrical stimulation, promoting enhanced neuronal differentiation and ...

Atrial fibrillation after heart transplantation

open access: yesТрансплантология (Москва), 2018
Arrhythmias in heart transplant recipients remain an important but under-studied issue in transplant medicine. One of the most common arrhythmias, atrial fibrillation can cause cardioembolic complications in transplant recipients, in the same way as in ...

Lactate administration does not affect denervation‐induced loss of mitochondrial content and muscle mass in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, 2021
Lactate is considered to be a signaling molecule that induces mitochondrial adaptation and muscle hypertrophy. The purpose of this study was to examine whether lactate administration attenuates denervation‐induced loss of mitochondrial content and muscle

Effect of Laser Posterior Nasal Neurolysis for the Treatment of Chronic Rhinitis: A Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesInternational Forum of Allergy &Rhinology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background To determine the safety and efficacy of laser ablation of the posterior nasal nerve (PNN) for the treatment of chronic rhinitis. Methods This study was a single‐center, prospective, single‐blinded, randomized sham‐controlled trial. Patients with a 24‐h reflective Total Nasal Symptom Score (rTNSS) ≧ 5, rhinorrhea ≧ 2, and congestion ≧

Key Components of Human Myofibre Denervation and Neuromuscular Junction Stability are Modulated by Age and Exercise

open access: yesCells, 2020
The decline in muscle mass and function with age is partly caused by a loss of muscle fibres through denervation. The purpose of this study was to investigate the potential of exercise to influence molecular targets involved in neuromuscular junction ...
