OPTIMISATION AND CONTROL OF DENSE MEDIUM CYCLONE CIRCUITS

2016
The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) and the University of Queensland’s Julius Kruttschnitt Mineral Research Centre (JKRMC) have conducted a number of Research projects focussed on the Dense Medium Cyclone (DMC) circuit in coal preparation plants.

Modelling of a 76 mm Diammeter Dense Medium Cyclone

Coal Preparation, 1994
Modelling of a 76 mm diameter dense medium cyclone treating coal in the size range - 2·0 + 0·5 mm have been done on the basis of extensive experimental data generated. The behaviour of independent sizes such as 2·0+ 1·4,-1·4+1·18,- 1·18 + 1·0,- 1·0 + 0·6,-0·6+0·5 mm fractions within the size range of-2·0+ 0·5 mm were separately analysed.

Particle size-included partition curve model of dense medium cyclones

International Journal of Coal Preparation and Utilization, 2019
The partition curve of dense medium cyclones (DMCs) has been extensively investigated. Most of the existing models are merely used to simulate the density distribution at the same size fraction.

The dense medium cyclone – past, present and future

Minerals Engineering, 2018
Abstract Since the dense medium cyclone (DMC) was first patented in the 1940s it has become the process of choice in coal preparation, and is also widely used for upgrading iron ore and in the pre-concentration of diamonds and metalliferous and industrial minerals. It is in every sense a mature technology.

Performance of a Dense-Medium Cyclone When Beneficiating Fine Coal

Coal Preparation, 1988
The partition function has been determined for fine coal in a dense-medium cyclone. The partition curve is characterised by four parameters; the cut point, the separation efficiency, the short circuit to underflow and the short circuit to overflow. Each of these parameters is a strong function of particle size for fine coal. The effect of slimes in the

CFD-DEM modelling of multiphase flow in dense medium cyclones

Powder Technology, 2009
Abstract Dense medium cyclone (DMC) is a high-tonnage device that is widely used to upgrade run-of-mine coal in coal preparation. It is simple in design but the flow pattern within it is complex due to the size and density distributions of the feed and process medium solids, and the turbulent vortex formed. This paper presents a mathematical model to

A dense medium cyclone model based on the pivot phenomenon

2015
It is shown that size-by-size partition curves for the separation of minerals in dense-medium cyclones 'pivot' about a single point whose coordinates are characteristic of the separation. For stable, non-segregating media this point is defined by the density of the medium and the proportion of the medium reporting to the underflow.
