Autogenous dense medium separation using an inclined counterflow settler

Minerals Engineering, 1997
Abstract An inclined lamella type device was used to separate particles on the basis of a difference in density. The feed slurry was pumped up through the device. Particles settled onto the inclined wall and slid to the base producing a concentrated underflow, while slower settling particles continued upwards producing the overflow stream.

Dense medium separation in an inverted fluidised bed system

Minerals Engineering, 2018
Abstract The purpose of this work was to examine the novel concept of performing a wet dense medium separation, utilising magnetite, on a fine (−1.0 mm) coal feed in an inverted fluidised bed system. The feed was a natural mixture of coal and mineral particles and the fluidised bed system was an Inverted Reflux Classifier.

Dynamic Modelling for Dense Medium Separation in Coal Beneficiation

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2010
Abstract Often the most difficult step in establishing a control system is the development of a suitable dynamic process model. As such a model is not available elsewhere, a first principle dynamic mathematical model was developed for a coal dense medium separation circuit. Each unit operation was modelled individually and then integrated together to

Performance Evaluation Practices at Dense Medium Separation Circuits

2016
In this paper, the application of density tracers for performance prediction of dense medium circuits and the strategies for identification of potential problems in operating plants are outlined, and the results obtained at various performance prediction and evaluation studies performed in various coal washing plants are summarized.

Modelling and simulation of dense medium drum separators

2020
The behaviour of dense medium drum separators at Hamersley Iron Ltd's iron ore concentrator and Groote Eylandt Mining Company Pty Ltd's manganese concentrator was studied. Sampling and density tracer techniques were used to collect drum partitioning data over a range of operating conditions and medium compositions.

Degradation of ferrosilicon media in dense medium separation circuits

Minerals Engineering, 1992
Abstract Observations on the degradation of various types of atomized and milled ferrosilicon in laboratory trials and operating DMS plants are presented. Mechanisms contributing to the loss of media through mechanical disintegration and electrochemical corrosion are identified.

Performance of conical and cylindrical separately vessels in dynamic dense-medium separation processes

Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration, 1999
To obtain a reliable comparison between conical and cylindrical separatory vessels used in dynamic dense-medium separation systems, the following two studies were made: a study of the swirling flow in conical and cylindrical vessels using laser-Doppler velocimetry (LDV) and a study of the behavior of suspensions of magnetite and ferrosilicon in water ...

Dense medium separation of coarse andalusite using waste iron powder as solid medium

Mineral Processing and Extractive Metallurgy, 2004
Dense medium separation (DMS) using a waste iron powder from a powder metallurgical plant as solid medium was studied to produce a coarse andalusite concentrate from Kuerle andalusite ore. A high-grade, coarse, andalusite concentrate assaying over 92% andalusite was produced by DMS and magnetic separation, which satisfies the market for the production ...

Modeling the size–density partition surface of dense-medium separators

International Journal of Mineral Processing, 2003
A stochastic model is proposed for describing the size–density partition surface in dense-medium (DSM) gravity/centrifugal separators. The model is obtained by super-imposing a random walk on a simplified particle flow behavior inside the separator.
