Periodontitis and Incident Diabetes Mellitus: A Nationwide Cohort Study From Korea
This nationwide cohort study demonstrates that treated periodontitis was independently associated with a 33% increased risk of incident diabetes. Using a treatment‐based exposure and a washout design, findings emphasize the importance of periodontal care in metabolic disease prevention.

The aim of this SR was to investigate the risk of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its single components in individuals with or without periodontitis/edentulism. Within the limits of this SR, periodontitis was associated with one or more new MetS components and the association may be higher for severe periodontitis.
