Surface texturing of Ti6Al4V alloy using femtosecond laser for superior antibacterial performance [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Titanium and its alloy are most widely used implant materials in dental and orthopaedic fields. However, infections occurring during implantation leads to implant failure in most of the cases. Here, we have demonstrated antibacterial behavior of Ti6Al4V alloy achieved when surface modified using femtosecond laser beam.

Rod‐shaped Polymerized Salicylic Acid Particles Modulate Neutrophil Transendothelial Migration in Acute Inflammation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Rod‐shaped particles outperform spherical particles of the same volume in preventing neutrophil infiltration to inflamed areas, both in vitro and in vivo. This therapeutic effectiveness is attributed to better cell targeting and decreased cell motility, resulting from the geometry‐driven phagocytosis and inhibited actin polymerization.

Pyrophosphate‐Containing Calcium Phosphates Negatively Impact Heterotopic Bone Quality

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The role of calcium pyrophosphate (Ca‐PP) in heterotopic bone formation and material degradation is investigated using calcium phosphate (CaP) compositions with varying Ca‐PP content. Results show that Ca‐PP does not impede heterotopic bone formation, minimally affects CaP degradation at non‐osseous sites, and increases phagocytosis.
