Conservation of the dental pulp—Cavity preparation

The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1959
Abstract The thoughts in this article may be summarized by stating that patients with dental caries are afflicted by a serious ailment. Their teeth are diseased and have carious lesions within them. When a carious lesion is excised, living tissues are cut. Excision of viable dentin is excision of extended living pulp.

Immunohistochemical localization of metallothionein in dental pulp after cavity preparation of rat molars

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology, and Endodontology, 2007
Metallothionein (MT) is an intracellular cysteine-rich protein associated with cell proliferation and differentiation. Our objective was to examine immunohistochemically the localization of MT in the rat dental pulp after cavity preparation.Cavities were prepared on the upper first molars of 9 rats.

A study of the dental pulp cavity of mandibular first permanent molars in the Kuwaiti population

Journal of Endodontics, 1998
This study documented the complexity of the root canal system in the mandibular first permanent molar. Forty-nine plastic replicas were used from mandibular first permanent molars obtained from young Kuwaitis. Results revealed that the tooth had 2 canals, 3 canals, and 4 canals 6.1%, 67.4%, and 26.5% of the time, respectively. The number, distribution,

The Effect of Unilateral Sympathectomy and Cavity Preparation on Peptidergic Nerves and Cells in Rat Dental Pulp

Experimental Neurology, 2001
Recent evidence suggests interactions between primary afferent nociceptors and postganglionic sympathetic efferents in the pathogenesis of inflammation. The effect of unilateral removal of the superior cervical ganglion on the innervation pattern of nerve fibers immunoreactive (IR) to calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), substance P (SP), and ...

The Role of Sensory Nerves in Dental Pulp Homeostasis: Histological Changes and Cellular Consequences after Sensory Denervation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences
Homeostatic maintenance is essential for pulp function. Disrupting pulp homeostasis may lead to pulp degeneration, such as fibrosis and calcifications. Sensory nerves constitute a crucial component of the dental pulp.

Pulp response in the rhesus monkey to “composite” dental restorative materials in unlined cavities

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1971
Abstract An investigation was carried out to compare the effects of new composite restorative materials with those of zinc oxide and eugenol and unlined silicates. The results indicate that composite materials can be considered biologically acceptable but that they are attended by a mild and persistent inflammatory response when used in deep, unlined

Histologic changes in dental pulps of dogs and monkeys following application of pressure, drugs, and microorganisms on prepared cavities

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1961
Abstract Irritants were applied to prepared cavities in the teeth of dogs and monkeys, the animals were killed at intervals, and the dental pulps were examined for evidence of histologic change. The degree of damage to the pulp was judged by such criteria as nuclear and cytoplasmic changes in the odontoblasts, altered arrangements of the odontoblasts,

Immunohistochemical localization of fibronectin in structures of the human oral cavity: dental pulp and gingiva.

Archives d'anatomie microscopique et de morphologie experimentale, 1985
The distribution of fibronectin (FN) in the dental pulp and gingiva of the human adult was investigated by indirect immunofluorescence and indirect immunoperoxidase techniques. FN could not be demonstrated in the connective tissue of the dental pulp even in the blood vessels. On the contrary, a positive stain was obtained in the ground substance at the
