Dentin permeability. The clinical ramifications.

Dental clinics of North America, 1992
Dentin is a unique material with the ability to provide not only sensation to the pulp but protection of this soft tissue. The jury is still out concerning the practice of etching dentin with caustic substances in order to remove the smear layer and to open dentinal tubules prior to restorative procedures.

[Effect of various pretreatments for dentin bonding on dentin permeability].

Shika zairyo, kikai = Journal of the Japanese Society for Dental Materials and Devices, 1992
Pretreatment of the dentinal surface with acidic solution is now considered to be necessary to obtain strong bonding between dentin and resin materials. Effects of various surface treatments for dentin bonding on dentinal smear removal have been reported by SEM observation. In this study, changes of dentin permeability after the surface treatments were

Bleaching technique effect on dentin permeability.

American journal of dentistry, 2014
To evaluate the effect of bleaching techniques on dentin permeability. The hypothesis was that the bleaching agent associated or not to etching and/or energy source would be able to increase dentin permeability (conductance).Fifty 1 mm-thick disks of mid-coronal dentin were obtained from human third molars, which were mounted in a filtration chamber ...

Permeability of dentin to adhesive agents.

Quintessence international (Berlin, Germany : 1985), 1994
The permeability of dentin to adhesive agents is of crucial importance in obtaining good dentinal bonding. In those systems that remove the smear layer, the opportunity exists for resin to infiltrate both tubules and intertubular dentin. Resin penetration into tubules can effectively seal the tubules and can contribute to bond strength if the resin ...

Dentin permeability: effects of crown preparation.

The International journal of prosthodontics, 1992
Sequential crown reductions of extracted human teeth were made to evaluate both regional differences in dentin permeability and the effects of tooth reduction. Two different methods of tooth reduction were used. In group 1, tooth reduction was nonuniform but was done in a manner similar to conventional crown preparations.

Dentin permeability: changes produced by iontophoresis.

Journal of dental research, 1978
Iontophoretic currents (0--1.0 mA) were applied to dentin disks prepared from human third molars. A negative electrode increased 125I-permeation 10X, while a positive electrode increased 14C-lidocaine 8X. Iontophoresis appears promising as a method to increase the permeation of dentin by ionized substances of therapeutic interest.
