Dentin permeability and dentin sensitivity.
Proceedings of the Finnish Dental Society. Suomen Hammaslaakariseuran toimituksia, 1992The hydrodynamic theory of dentin sensitivity is based on the premise that sensitive dentin is permeable throughout the length of the tubules. Such a condition may permit the diffusion of bacterial products across dentin to the pulp where they may cause irritation of pulpal soft tissues.

Effect of dentin desensitizers and dentin bonding agents on dentin permeability.
American journal of dentistry, 2002To determine the effect of dentin desensitizing agents (oxalates and glutaraldehyde) and dentin bonding agents, with and without resin-based composite (RBC) on dentin permeability and morphology of the dentin surface. The influence of saliva and toothbrushing on these agents was also evaluated.Radicular dentin discs +/-1 mm thick were obtained from ...

Dentin Permeability: Effects of Temperature on Hydraulic Conductance
Journal of Dental Research, 1983The rates of fluid movement across dentin discs, in vitro, were measured at 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50°C in unetched and acid-etched dentin. Increasing the temperature 40° (i.e., from 10 to 50°C) resulted in a 1.8-fold increase in fluid flow in unetched dentin, which was of a magnitude similar to the decrease in viscosity that occurred over the same ...

[The influence of dentin conditioning on permeability of dentin].
Deutsche Stomatologie (Berlin, Germany : 1990), 1992In this study the influence of four different pretreatments showed significant differences on the permeability of cut dentin. On the average the application of 25% polyacrylic acid increased the permeability by approximately 10 percent, the application of 34% polyacrylic acid by 30 percent.

Dentine permeability and its role in the pathobiology of dentine sensitivity
Archives of Oral Biology, 1994The classical hydrodynamic theory implicated fluid movement as a transducing mechanism in the production of dental sensitivity. This theory assumes that sensitive dentine must be permeable. Various measurements of dentine permeability are discussed, including: (1) factors that influence diffusive permeation across dentine; (2) factors that influence ...

[Microbial permeability of dentin].
Stomatologia, 1990This is a review of the literature about the contemporary aspects of microbial permeability of dentin. They are discussed the factors that are responsible for this question and analytically: the structure of dentin, the composition of dentin in organic and inorganic ingredients, the response mechanisms of dentin, that is the irritation dentin and ...

Dentin permeability after toothbrushing with different toothpastes.
American journal of dentistry, 1999To evaluate the interaction of smear layer produced during brushing and dentifrice particles.Dentin disks were obtained from extracted human third molars. Dentin permeability was evaluated using a hydraulic pressure apparatus working at 1 psi of pressure.

Dentinal Tubule Occlusion and Dentin Permeability Efficacy of Silver Diamine Fluoride Solutions
International Journal of Dental HygieneABSTRACTAimThis in vitro study compared the effect of two commercially available silver diamine fluoride (SDF) products on dentinal tubule (DT) occlusion and dentin permeability.MethodsSixty‐six dentin discs (1.0 mm thick) were divided equally into six groups: acid‐etched with no treatment (negative control—NC), etched and sealed with nail varnish ...

Dentin permeability. The clinical ramifications.
Dental clinics of North America, 1992Dentin is a unique material with the ability to provide not only sensation to the pulp but protection of this soft tissue. The jury is still out concerning the practice of etching dentin with caustic substances in order to remove the smear layer and to open dentinal tubules prior to restorative procedures.

[Effect of various pretreatments for dentin bonding on dentin permeability].
Shika zairyo, kikai = Journal of the Japanese Society for Dental Materials and Devices, 1992Pretreatment of the dentinal surface with acidic solution is now considered to be necessary to obtain strong bonding between dentin and resin materials. Effects of various surface treatments for dentin bonding on dentinal smear removal have been reported by SEM observation. In this study, changes of dentin permeability after the surface treatments were
