Denture adhesives: their effects on denture retention and stability
Journal of Dentistry, 1985Abstract Denture adhesives have been used by denture wearers for many years. A number of studies have been conducted to assess the effectiveness of these adhesives. This article describes a technique whereby the effectiveness of the adhesives was determined with the dentures in function through the use of the kinesiograph. The results indicated that

A method for testing denture adhesives
The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1991An in vitro test method is described simulating the in vivo fate of a denture adhesive, i.e., destruction of the adhesive, dilution, and dissolution, by measuring the bond strength for the adhesive placed between acrylic resin plates. Between each measurement, the adhesive was exposed to isotonic saline.

Denture adhesives: a side effect
Journal of Dentistry, 1980Abstract An in vitro experiment was performed to demonstrate whether a denture adhesive containing Karaya gum could decalcify dental enamel. Decalcification was estimated by means of microindentation hardness tests. To enhance visibility the specimens examined were gold plated before the indentations were measured.

Denture adhesives—pH and buffering capacity
The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1991Aqueous solutions of some denture adhesives will produce a pH below the critical pH of hydroxyapatite. This article measured the pH of selected denture adhesives. The pH and buffering capacity were established for 10 readily available denture adhesives.

Hyperzincemia from ingestion of denture adhesives
The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 2010The purpose of this article is to review the recent literature that documents the serious adverse systemic effects of prolonged, excessive zinc ingestion from the overuse of denture adhesives. This condition causes elevation of serum zinc levels that result in depression of serum copper.

A method for testing denture adhesives
The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1995An in vitro test is described that simulates the in vivo fate of a denture adhesive, namely destruction, dilution, and dissolution of the adhesive, by repeated measurement of tensile bond strength for the adhesive in isotonic saline over time. The bond strengths were measured under two different settings of the testing machine. The main compositions of

The adhesive strength and initial viscosity of denture adhesives
Acta Odontologica Scandinavica, 2014To examine the initial viscosity and adhesive strength of modern denture adhesives in vitro.Three cream-type denture adhesives (Poligrip S, Corect Cream, Liodent Cream; PGS, CRC, LDC) and three powder-type denture adhesives (Poligrip Powder, New Faston, Zanfton; PGP, FSN, ZFN) were used in this study.

Adhesive bonding of denture base resins to plastic denture teeth
Journal of Biomedical Materials Research, 1990AbstractThe adhesive bonding of denture teeth to denture base resins in dentures with conventional acrylic teeth and crosslinked plastic teeth was investigated. The dentures with highly crosslinked plastic teeth such as SR‐Orthosit, Crystal ND, and Mitel‐OM showed poor bonding at the tooth/base resin interface using the conventional bonding method ...

Adhesion of denture tooth porcelain to heat-polymerized denture resin
The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1995Use of porcelain denture teeth may be desirable in many clinical situations, including implant-supported prostheses. However, lack of space because of frameworks often precludes the use of conventional retention by diatorics and pins. Adhesion of porcelain denture teeth to denture resin could also stiffen and possibly strengthen dentures and decrease ...

In vitro measurement of vertical denture displacement by denture adhesives
Dental Materials, 1987Abstract Vertical displacement of dentures by denture adhesives has been considered to be a major problem. An in vitro method was developed to assess this phenomenon and results show that a minimum displacement occurred with “true” adhesives. The vehicle did have a slight effect on adhesive distribution. Denture cushions were unsatisfactory.
