The Journal of the American Dental Association, 1996Since people began using denture adhesives more than 200 years ago, dentists have been slow to acknowledge their place in prosthetic dentistry. The author maintains that if properly used, denture adhesives can be an asset to the dentist's armamentarium.

A method for testing denture adhesives
The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1991An in vitro test method is described simulating the in vivo fate of a denture adhesive, i.e., destruction of the adhesive, dilution, and dissolution, by measuring the bond strength for the adhesive placed between acrylic resin plates. Between each measurement, the adhesive was exposed to isotonic saline.

Denture adhesives: a side effect
Journal of Dentistry, 1980Abstract An in vitro experiment was performed to demonstrate whether a denture adhesive containing Karaya gum could decalcify dental enamel. Decalcification was estimated by means of microindentation hardness tests. To enhance visibility the specimens examined were gold plated before the indentations were measured.

Denture adhesives—pH and buffering capacity
The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1991Aqueous solutions of some denture adhesives will produce a pH below the critical pH of hydroxyapatite. This article measured the pH of selected denture adhesives. The pH and buffering capacity were established for 10 readily available denture adhesives.
