A method for testing denture adhesives
The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1991An in vitro test method is described simulating the in vivo fate of a denture adhesive, i.e., destruction of the adhesive, dilution, and dissolution, by measuring the bond strength for the adhesive placed between acrylic resin plates. Between each measurement, the adhesive was exposed to isotonic saline.

A method for testing denture adhesives
The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1995An in vitro test is described that simulates the in vivo fate of a denture adhesive, namely destruction, dilution, and dissolution of the adhesive, by repeated measurement of tensile bond strength for the adhesive in isotonic saline over time. The bond strengths were measured under two different settings of the testing machine. The main compositions of

The composition and rheology of denture adhesives
Journal of Dentistry, 1980Abstract Ten brands of denture adhesive on sale in the United Kingdom have had their active constituents identified by infrared spectroscopy. Six contained Karaya gum, an acidic substance which in aqueous solution could cause decalcification of enamel. The viscosity of the denture adhesives studied was of the order of 106 poise.

Denture adhesives: A systematic review
The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 2015Denture adhesives have been the objective of scientific research for over half a century. Although they are used by denture wearers worldwide, investigations of their effectiveness and biocompatibility have led to controversial conclusions. The purpose of this study was to review the literature data with regard to the effectiveness and biocompatibility ...

Evaluation of the efficiency of denture cleaners for removing denture adhesives
Gerodontology, 2015ObjectiveWe developed a new scoring index for assessing the removability of denture adhesives and evaluated the removal efficiency of denture cleaners.BackgroundAlthough our understanding of the importance of denture care is increasing, little is known about the effectiveness and efficiency of denture cleaners on denture adhesives.

Effect of denture adhesive on the retention and stability of mixillary dentures
The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1994This study used quantitative methods to measure the effects of a denture adhesive on the retention and stability of the maxillary denture. Denture movements were measured on 20 patients during standardized chewing, swallowing, and speaking activities, first with no adhesive, and then at 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8 hours after application of an over-the-counter ...

In vitro measurement of vertical denture displacement by denture adhesives
Dental Materials, 1987Abstract Vertical displacement of dentures by denture adhesives has been considered to be a major problem. An in vitro method was developed to assess this phenomenon and results show that a minimum displacement occurred with “true” adhesives. The vehicle did have a slight effect on adhesive distribution. Denture cushions were unsatisfactory.

DENTURE ADHESIVES: CHANGING ATTITUDES
The Journal of the American Dental Association, 1996Since people began using denture adhesives more than 200 years ago, dentists have been slow to acknowledge their place in prosthetic dentistry. The author maintains that if properly used, denture adhesives can be an asset to the dentist's armamentarium.

The Effect of Dentures and Denture Adhesives on Mouth Alcohol Retention
Journal of Forensic Sciences, 1992Abstract A total of 24 alcohol-free, denture-wearing subjects were tested for mouth-alcohol retention times with an Intoxilyzer™ 5000. The subjects were given 30 mL doses of 80 proof brandy to swish in their mouths without swallowing for 2 min prior to expectorating the dose.

Denture adhesives: a side effect
Journal of Dentistry, 1980Abstract An in vitro experiment was performed to demonstrate whether a denture adhesive containing Karaya gum could decalcify dental enamel. Decalcification was estimated by means of microindentation hardness tests. To enhance visibility the specimens examined were gold plated before the indentations were measured.
