Profiling an Enhanced IL-6 Expression Distinguishes Host Susceptibility to Primary and Secondary Infections of the Dengue Virus in an Ex Vivo Whole-Blood Coculture Model. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Trop Med
Dengue virus (DENV) infection can potentially lead to severe dengue disease due to the risk of antibody‐dependent enhancement. This study reports a comparative analysis of the host cytokine/chemokine response triggered by primary and secondary DENV infections using an artificial ex vivo whole‐blood coculture model to simulate viremia during the acute ...

Evolutionary history and spatiotemporal dynamics of DENV-1 genotype V in the Americas

open access: yesInfection, Genetics and Evolution, 2016
The genotype V has been the most prevalent dengue virus type 1 (DENV-1) clade circulating in the Americas over the last 40years. In this study, we investigate the spatiotemporal pattern of emergence and dissemination of DENV-1 lineages in the continent.

Circulating serotypes and genotypes of dengue virus in North India: An observational study

open access: yesJournal of Vector Borne Diseases
Background & objectives: This study reports observation on circulating serotypes and genotypes of Dengue Virus in North India. Methods: Serum samples were obtained from suspected cases of dengue referred to the virus diagnostic laboratory during 2014 to ...

Exome-wide association study reveals largely distinct gene sets underlying specific resistance to dengue virus types 1 and 3 in Aedes aegypti.

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2020
Although specific interactions between host and pathogen genotypes have been well documented in invertebrates, the identification of host genes involved in discriminating pathogen genotypes remains a challenge.

Envelope domain III E324, E351, and E380 mutations lever adaptive evolution of DENV-1 genotype I. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Virol
ABSTRACT Dengue virus (DENV) gains genetic mutations during continuous transmission and evolution, making the virus more adaptive and virulent. The clade of DENV-1 genotype I has expanded and become the predominant genotype in Asia and the Pacific areas, but the underlying mechanisms are unclear.

Nano‐ and Micro‐Sized Solid Materials Used as Antiviral Agents

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Due to the rise of viral infections in humans and possible viral outbreaks, the use of nano‐ or micro‐sized materials as antiviral agents is rapidly increasing. This review explores their antiviral properties against RNA and DNA viruses, either as a prevention or a treatment tool, by delving into their mechanisms of action and how to properly assess ...

Immunological and viral determinants of dengue severity in hospitalized adults in Ha Noi, Viet Nam. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, 2011
The relationships between the infecting dengue serotype, primary and secondary infection, viremia and dengue severity remain unclear. This cross-sectional study examined these interactions in adult patients hospitalized with dengue in Ha Noi.158 patients

Carbon Quantum Dots Assisted Virus Tracking: From Skin to Brain

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A novel carbon quantum dots‐dissolvable microneedle, CQDs‐dMN system, enables painless delivery and real‐time tracking of HSV‐1. The HSV‐1 is labeled with fluorescent CQDs and delivered to the skin dermis, minimizing damage compared to traditional methods.

Genetic diversity and lineage dynamic of dengue virus serotype 1 (DENV-1) in Cambodia

open access: yesInfection, Genetics and Evolution, 2013
In Cambodia, dengue virus (DENV) was first isolated in 1963 and has become endemic with peak epidemic during raining season. Since 2000, the Dengue National Control Program has reported from 10,000 to 40,000 cases per year with fatality rates ranging from 0.7 to 1.7.
