Sobre a lógica deôntica não-clássica

open access: yesCrítica, 2018
Our starting point, in this basically expository paper, is the study of a classical system of deontic propositional logic, classical in the sense that it constitutes an extension of the classical propositional calculus.

Coarse deontic logic

open access: yesJournal of Logic and Computation, 2018
Cariani (Ought and resolution semantics) has proposed a semantics for ought that combines two features: (i) it invalidates Inheritance, i.e. the inference from ought to ought whenever is logically weaker than , and it does so in a principled manner; (ii) it allows for coarseness, which means that ought can be true even if there are specific ways of ...

How generics obscure the logic of conditionals

open access: yesMind &Language, EarlyView.
This paper discusses counter‐examples to modus ponens and modus tollens involving modals and quantificational adverbs, and presents new counter‐examples with generic conditionals. We argue that the counter‐examples are spurious, and are explained by the domain‐restricting effects of if‐clauses.

No Guide to Ground: Right‐Making and Right‐Makers

open access: yesNoûs, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT It is often taken for granted that right‐makers, that is, the things that make something—say, an action—right, do so by explaining why it is right. This view can be spelled out in terms of metaphysical ground: right‐making just is grounding of rightness facts.

A Scale for Mixed Reasons for Belief

open access: yesNoûs, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Epistemic reasons matter for what you should believe. But then, some think there are practical reasons that matter, too. How could both sorts of reasons be weighed together to determine the doxastic states you ought to hold, all things considered?

Quantifiers for a Modal Future

open access: yesPhilosophical Perspectives, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Future auxiliaries present a challenge to the classical analysis of modal expressions as existential or universal quantifiers over a contextually provided set of possible worlds: these expressions come with a distinct modal flavor, but their interaction with negation and the fact that future judgments come in degrees of confidence is ...

Metaethics and the Functions of Moral Language

open access: yesPhilosophy and Phenomenological Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Metaethics has long included debates about the function of moral discourse. Some have argued that moral statements express our attitudes, others that they serve as prescriptions for how to act, still others that they describe moral facts or properties.

Dynamic Deontic Logic for Permitted Announcements

open access: yes, 2022
peer reviewedIn this paper, we introduce and study a dynamic deontic logic for permitted announcements. In our logic framework, it is permitted to announce something if announcing it would not lead to forbidden knowledge.
