Optimal distributed sensing in noisy environments
We consider distributed sensing of nonlocal quantities. We introduce quantum enhanced protocols to directly measure any (scalar) field with a specific spatial dependence by placing sensors at appropriate positions and preparing a spatially distributed ...

This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Multivariate measures of positive dependence [PDF]
In this paper a set of desirable properties for measures of positive dependence of ordered n-tuples of continuous random variables (n >= 2) is proposed and a class of multivariate positive dependence measures is introduced. We consider the comonotonicity

The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Mutual information: a dependence measure for nonlinear time series [PDF]
This paper investigates the possibility to analyse the structure of unconditional or conditional (and possibly nonlinear) dependence in financial returns without requiring the specification of mean-variance models or a theoretical probability ...

We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

On a new measure of dependence and its applications
A new measure of dependence called pseudo-covariance and related to covariance is proposed. It can be applied in problems when the classic covariance fails.
