A measure for spatial dependence in natural stochastic textures
Random textures differ from natural textures because they lack structure. Structure is a concept that is difficult to formalize, but we generally observe that it is associated with spatial dependence between adjacent pixels.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

An Analysis of a Heuristic Procedure to Evaluate Tail (in)dependence
Measuring tail dependence is an important issue in many applied sciences in order to quantify the risk of simultaneous extreme events. A usual measure is given by the tail dependence coefficient.

A Long Range Dependence Stable Process and an Infinite Variance Branching System [PDF]
We prove a functional limit theorem for the rescaled occupation time fluctuations of a (d, , )- branching particle system (particles moving in Rd according to a symmetric -stable L´evy process, branching law in the domain of attraction of a (1 + )-stable

ON AN INTERNAL DEPENDENCE OF SIMULTANEOUS MEASUREMENTS
In this paper we show that there exists an internal dependence of the simultaneous measurements made by the two pairs of linear polarizers operated in each leg of the apparatus in Aspect’s version of Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen Gedankenexperiment. The corresponding Shannon-Kolmogorov’s information flow linking a polarizer from one leg to a polarizer from ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Background The concept of dependence has been proposed as a unified representation of disease severity to quantify and stage disease progression in a manner more informative to patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers. Methods This paper provides a

Reward responsivity and the development of nicotine dependence
Different theories have been proposed to explain the development of nicotine dependence. Some theories suggest that nicotine has direct reinforcing properties, either positive or negative.

Statistical models for dependent and non-stationary extreme events [PDF]
Extreme value methods are used in a wide range of applications, for example they may be used for modelling wave heights and river levels in hydrology, wind speeds in structural engineering and share price return levels in economics.
