Depolarization bandwidth of fiber optic passive depolarizers

Optical Engineering, 2001
Several single-mode fiber optic applications benefit from the use of depolarized light. Examples are suppression of polarization hole burning (PHB) in erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFA),1–3 reduction of polarization-dependent loss arising from fiber components (e.g., couplers and wave-division multiplexers),4 reduction of the signal fading in fiber ...

The depolarizing GABA response

Canadian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology, 1997
In some situations the inhibitory neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) elicits a hyperpolarizing response (H response) followed by a depolarizing response (D response) on cortical neurons. It has recently been established that the D response on hippocampal pyramidal cells is largely carried by bicarbonate ions (HCO3-).

ORCA's depolarizer

SPIE Proceedings, 2011
The Ocean Radiometer for Carbon Assessment (ORCA), currently being developed at Goddard, is a hyperspectral instrument with a spectral range extending from 350nm to 880nm in the UV and visible wavelength. Its radiometric measurement accuracy will depend, in part, on the extent to which it is insensitive to linearly polarized light.

Depolarizing the perceptual magnet effect [PDF]

open access: possibleThe Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1998
In recent years there has been a great deal of interest in demonstrations of the so-called “Perceptual-Magnet Effect” (PME). In these studies, AX-discrimination tasks purportedly reveal that discriminability of speech sounds from a single category varies with judged phonetic “goodness” of the sounds.

Depolarization-induced slow potentiation of depolarizing afterpotential

NeuroReport, 1997
Effects of strong membrane depolarization on the excitability of regular spiking (RS) non-pyramidal cells in layer VI of the cat motor cortex were examined in in vitro slice preparations. RS non-pyramidal cells that expressed depolarizing afterpotential (DAP) following spikes displayed either of the two distinct responses: immediate and successive ...

Depolarizing Neuromuscular Block

Anesthesiology, 1971
Simultaneous recording of tension output and intracellular potentials was made in rat diaphragms contracting isometrically. There were two types of responses to the administration of succinylcholine and decamethonium. An "initial" response characterized by: 1) transient increase in the strength of muscular contractions, 2) 5 to 10 mV depolarization of ...

Depolarization synthesis: understanding the optics of Mueller matrix depolarization

Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2013
In this paper, we consider the forward problem in depolarization by optical systems. That is, we seek a compact parameterization that allows us to take an arbitrary "pure" optical system (namely one defined by a single Mueller-Jones matrix) and model all possible ways in which that system can depolarize light.

Mechanisms of spreading depression and hypoxic spreading depression-like depolarization.

Physiological Reviews, 2001
Spreading depression (SD) and the related hypoxic SD-like depolarization (HSD) are characterized by rapid and nearly complete depolarization of a sizable population of brain cells with massive redistribution of ions between intracellular and ...

Depolarizing Action of Endotoxin

Nature, 1965
RECENTLY we reported that various endotoxins induced hyper-reactivity of pulmonary vasoconstrictor mechanisms to circulating acetylcholine (ACh) in rabbits1,2. This effect was specific for ACh and was not due to inhibition of ACh-esterase. It was abolished by atropine but not by ganglionic blocking agents2.

Nuclear depolarization and absolute sensitivity in magic-angle spinning cross effect dynamic nuclear polarization.

Physical Chemistry, Chemical Physics - PCCP, 2015
Over the last two decades solid state Nuclear Magnetic Resonance has witnessed a breakthrough in increasing the nuclear polarization, and thus experimental sensitivity, with the advent of Magic Angle Spinning Dynamic Nuclear Polarization (MAS-DNP).
