Impacts of sediment deposition on landscape pattern in Dongting Lake and Poyang Lake wetlands, China
Sediment deposition significantly impacts wetland biodiversity, ecological processes, and ecosystem functions. This research used the maximum likelihood method combined with the landscape pattern index to compare landscape patterns in three key periods ...

Inclined colloidal drops: Evaporation kinetics and pattern formation
The drying of solute-laden drops is ubiquitous in everyday life, from paints and printers to the raindrops drying on our windows. Nonetheless, scientific interest has primarily focused on understanding the evaporation kinetics on flat surface, with the ...

Defining the Prion Type of Fatal Familial Insomnia
Fatal familial insomnia (FFI) belongs to the genetic human transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSE), such as genetic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) or Gerstmann-Straeussler-Scheinker syndrome (GSS).

Comparative study of deposition patterns for DED-Arc additive manufacturing of Al-4046
Quality assurance is one of the largest challenges to the widespread adoption of metal additive manufacturing technology. Deposition pattern can significantly impact the temperature distribution during manufacturing process and thus the overall quality ...

Model for erosion-deposition patterns [PDF]
We investigate through computational simulations with a pore network model the formation of patterns caused by erosion-deposition mechanisms. In this model, the geometry of the pore space changes dynamically as a consequence of the coupling between the fluid flow and the movement of particles due to local drag forces.

Sequential deposition of microdroplets on patterned surfaces [PDF]
We use a combination of experiments and numerical modelling to investigate the influence of physico-chemical-patterned substrates on the spreading of fluid deposited as a partially overlapping sequence of droplets via inkjet printing. We find that both topography and wettability variations are required for robust pixel filling without overspill.

Background: Degeneration of the serotonin system has been observed in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and in mild cognitive impairment (MCI). In transgenic amyloid mouse models, serotonin degeneration is detected prior to widespread cortical beta-amyloid (Aβ ...

A universal method for depositing patterned materials in situ [PDF]
AbstractCurrent techniques of patterned material deposition require separate steps for patterning and material deposition. The complexity and harsh working conditions post serious limitations for fabrication. Here, we introduce a single-step and easy-to-adapt method that can deposit materials in-situ.

Patterns of USPIO Deposition in Murine Atherosclerosis [PDF]
To the Editor: With great interest and curiosity we awaited the publication of the article by Morris et al,1 ever since the presentation of their preliminary data at the ISMRM conference last year.2 Their article answers the question whether or not MRI of plaque macrophages in a widely used murine animal model of atherosclerosis is possible with ...
