Carbon Acidity in Enzyme Active Sites

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2019
The pKa values for substrates acting as carbon acids (i.e., C-H deprotonation reactions) in several enzyme active sites are presented. The information needed to calculate them includes the pKa of the active site acid/base catalyst and the equilibrium ...

Experimental Investigation of Dynamic Deprotonation/Protonation of Highly Charged Particles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Single pores have found application in detecting and characterizing individual objects such as cells, particles, and even individual molecules. The experimental approach, called resistive-pulse technique, is often performed at symmetric electrolyte ...

Interfacial Water Coordination on Ruthenium Oxide Nanoparticles Confined Within Covalent Organic Framework and Its Effect on Electrochemical Nitrate Reduction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We demonstrate how oxygen‐deficient ruthenium oxide (RuOx) nanoparticles confined within covalent organic framework achieve highly efficient nitrate‐to‐ammonia conversion. Strong interaction between RuOx nanoparticles and COF results in modified interfacial hydrogen‐bond water network and adsorption of nitrogenous intermediates.

Prediction of Antioxidant Capacity of Thiolate–Disulfide Systems Using Species-Specific Basicity Values

open access: yesAntioxidants
The principal reactions that maintain redox homeostasis in living systems are the deprotonation of thiols, followed by the oxidative conversion of the produced thiolates into disulfides, which thus reduce the harmful oxidizing agents.

Die Deprotonierung des Ni(II)-Aquoions (Stopped-Flow-Methode)

open access: yesCHIMIA, 1971
A stopped flow procedure is described which allows to separate the deprotonation reaction of the Ni2+-aquoion from the formation of the polynuclear hydroxo species. The pK was determined to be 11,0.

Tandem Duplication‐Driven Neofunctionalization of UDP‐Glycosyltransferases Shapes the Diversification of Triterpenoid Saponins in the Cucurbitaceae

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We present a chromosome‐level genome assembly of Siraitia grosvenorii and, through comparative genomics, uncover a conserved UGT73 tandem array driving triterpenoid saponin diversification in Cucurbitaceae. Crystalized SgUGT73AM30 further reveals the regioselectivity mechanism underlying its catalytic activity.

Regioselectivity of Pyridine Deprotonation in the Gas Phase [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The regioselective deprotonation of pyridine in the gas phase has been investigated by using chemical reactivity studies. The mixture of regioisomers, trapped as carboxylates, formed in an equilibrium mixture is determined to result from 70−80 ...

Conformational Transduction Amplification in a Biomimetic Polyelectrolyte for Ultrasensitive Imaging of Iron Metabolism

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work designs a peptide‐free polyelectrolyte with stable, switchable conformations and near‐infrared fluorescence in water. It harnesses a cooperative Fe3+‐triggered sheet‐to‐helix transition to generate nonlinear fluorescence quenching, enabling the ultrasensitive, real‐time visualization of Fe3+ ion distribution and metabolic trafficking at ...
