Derivative-free optimization and neural networks for robust regression

open access: yes, 2012
Large outliers break down linear and nonlinear regression models. Robust regression methods allow one to filter out the outliers when building a model.

The Flow Analysis of Fiuids in Fractal Reservoir with the Fractional Derivative

open access: yes, 2006
In this paper, fractional order derivative, fractal dimension and spectral dimension are introduced into the seepage flow mechanics to establish the flow models of fluids in fractal reservoirs with the fractional derivative.

In Pursuit of Samuelson for Commodity Futures: How to Parameterize and Calibrate the Term Structure of Volatilities

open access: yesCommodities
The phenomenon of rising forward price volatility, both historical and implied, as maturity approaches is referred to as the Samuelson effect or maturity effect.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Unravelling undergraduate mathematics students' understanding of derivatives

open access: yesJournal of Research and Advances in Mathematics Education
Derivatives are a significant concept in calculus; nonetheless, students' conceptual understanding remains inadequate.  Therefore, a conceptual understanding of this subject should be a priority.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Incomplete Derivative Markets and Portfolio Insurance [PDF]

open access: yes
We present necessary and sufficient conditions on the asset span of incomplete derivative markets for insuring marketed portfolios. If the asset span is finite dimensional there exists a polynomial-time algorithm for deciding if every marketed portfolio ...

An extension of Jensen's theorem for the derivative of a polynomial and for infrapolynomials

open access: yes, 1962
The purpose of the paper is to generalize Jensen's theorem on the zeros of the derivative of a real polynomial. Results are first established for infrapolynomials and therefrom derived for expressions of the form G'(z) and aG(z)+bzG' (z), where G(z) is a
