High throughput drug discovery towards novel therapeutics for snakebite dermonecrosis

2023
Snakebite envenomation is a neglected tropical disease that kills over 100,000 people per year and injures more than 400,000. Brazil suffers more than 26,000 snakebites per year. It is estimated that 90% of all snakebite accidents in the Amazon region are caused by Bothrops species pit vipers.

[Enzootic dermonecrosis in chickens].

Veterinarno-meditsinski nauki, 1976
An enzootic of necrotic dermatosis in hen layers was described. The changes consisted in that they had constant localization and demarkated sites on the skin between the back and the neck. The disease was observed on a farm for 5000 layers in the course of two consecutive years.

Sphingomyelinases in the Venom of the SpiderLoxosceles intermediaAre Responsible for both Dermonecrosis and Complement-Dependent Hemolysis

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1998
The bite of spiders of the genus Loxosceles can induce a variety of biological effects, including dermonecrosis and complement (C) dependent haemolysis. The aim of this study was to characterise the toxins in the venom responsible for the different biological effects.

Pattern of inflammatory response to Loxosceles intermedia venom in distinct mouse strains: A key element to understand skin lesions and dermonecrosis by poisoning

Toxicon, 2015
Envenomation caused by spiders Loxosceles induce intense dermonecrosis at the bite site and systemic disease. In this work we described the hyaluronidase and collagenase activities in vitro of the Loxosceles intermedia venom, but no phospholipase A2 activity. In vivo, we evaluated the effect of L. intermedia venom used different strain of mice, C57BL/6,
