Selection and jump rules in electronic Raman scattering from GaAs/Al_{x}Ga_{1-x}As artificial atoms [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. B 71 (2005) 241311 (R), 2005
A theoretical description of electronic Raman scattering from GaAs/Al_{x}Ga_{1-x}As artificial atoms under the influence of an external magnetic field is presented. Raman spectra with laser excitation energy in the interval E_{gap}-30 meV to E_{gap} are computed in the polarized and depolarized geometry.

High‐Entropy Magnetism of Murunskite

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The study of murunskite (K2FeCu3S4) reveals that its magnetic and orbital order emerges in a simple I4/mmm crystal structure with complete disorder in the transition metal positions. Mixed‐valence Fe ions randomly occupy 1/4 of the tetrahedral sites, with the remaining 3/4 being filled by non‐magnetic Cu+ ions.

Universality in the Energy Spectrum of Medium-Sized Quantum Dots [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. B 78 (2008) 205320, 2008
In a two-dimensional parabolic quantum dot charged with $N$ electrons, Thomas-Fermi theory states that the ground-state energy satisfies the following non-trivial relation: $E_{gs}/(\hbar\omega)\approx N^{3/2} f_{gs}(N^{1/4}\beta)$, where the coupling constant, $\beta$, is the ratio between Coulomb and oscillator ($\hbar\omega$) characteristic energies,

Phase Equilibria for Quaternary Mixtures in Esterification Reaction Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
This paper examines the effect of the simultaneous chemical and phase equilibrium on the conceptual design of reactive distillation processes. Esterification of acetic acid with methanol, ethanol and butanol are examined.

Scintillation Response of 0D Cs3Cu2I5 Thin Layers to Light‐ and Heavy‐Ion Irradiation

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, EarlyView.
Driven by increasing interest in uncovering the remarkable photoluminescence quantum yield of Cs3Cu2I5, polycrystalline thin layers are synthesized to investigate its radioluminescence response to energetic ions. Its spectroscopic capability is assessed in a wide range of ion mass and internal excitation processes are explored.

A preconditioner for the Schur complement matrix [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
A preconditioner for iterative solution of the interface problem in Schur Complement Domain Decomposition Methods is presented. This preconditioner is based on solving a global problem in a narrow strip around the interface.

Breeding and selection of taro (Colocasia esculenta) for improved disease‐resistance in Hawaiʻi

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 5, Issue 1, Page 123-145, January 2023., 2023
Taro is a root crop with wide geographic range and high cultural significance to Indigenous peoples of Hawaiʻi and the Pacific. Taro Leaf Blight (TLB) is a worldwide disease of taro, and Hawaiian taro varieties exhibited little resistance to it. To improve TLB‐resistance, conventional breeding was conducted by hand‐pollination.
