This study examined the possibility that there is cross-desensitization between immunologic and nonimmunologic stimuli that evoke contraction and histamine release (HR) in the isolated guinea pig trachea. Compound 48/80 and D-tubocurarine were found to cause homologous and heterologous desensitization for both contraction and HR from superfused trachea.

Oral immunotherapy (OIT) is a novel allergen-specific treatment for food allergies. To investigate the effect of OIT on blocking antibodies, T cell regulation, and cytokine response during immunoglobulin (Ig)E-mediated cow's milk allergy (CMA) treatment.A total of 59 children with IgE-mediated CMA who were followed in pediatric allergy outpatient clinic

Transplantation Proceedings, 2019
Sensitization to HLA antigens creates an immunologic barrier, linked to an increased risk of antibody-mediated rejection and poorer graft survival, that remains a persistent and often impenetrable deterrent to transplantation. Desensitization can improve transplantation rates in broadly sensitized kidney transplant recipients.

The evolution of allergen immunotherapy from empirical desensitization to immunological treatment.
European annals of allergy and clinical immunology, 2013In its century-long history, allergen immunotherapy (AIT), has shown continuous evolution in terms of the materials and the treatment schedules used, the adequate duration, and the mechanisms of action underlying its clinical efficacy. The passage from the empirical phase of AIT to the era of evidence-based medicine (EBM) was associated with ...

Some immunological parameters were followed up during the first year of grass pollen desensitization in 15 patients. The skin reactions with grass pollen extract in a series of tenfold dilutions were diminished in all patients during treatment. In nearly all patients a distinct increase in blocking antibody titre was seen.

BackgroundKidney transplantation is a well‐established alternative in renal replacement therapy. Compared with hemodialysis, low‐immunological‐risk kidney transplantation can reduce the medical treatment costs associated with end‐stage renal disease. However, there are few reports on whether high‐immunological‐risk kidney transplantation reduces the ...

[New immunologic perspectives on specific desensitization].
Schweizerische medizinische Wochenschrift, 1978The development of objective techniques for the quantitative evaluation of synthesis and production of IgE in man and experimental animals and the sensitivity of basophils in interaction with allergen has made it possible to initiate studies on desensitization on a scientific and objective basis.
