The interacting effects of precipitation and microhabitat on non‐native seed predation are contingent on temporal dynamics

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Understanding how different drivers of global change interact to shape ecological processes remains a major challenge in ecology. Climate change is reshuffling the interactions that structure communities, with major implications for biological invasions.

Development of Cost‐Effective and Highly Transparent Melamine Formaldehyde Resin Modified With Sodium Chloride for Enhancing Glossiness and Abrasion Resistance of Melamine Impregnated Paper

open access: yesPolymer Engineering &Science, EarlyView.
An eco‐friendly melamine‐formaldehyde was produced by the addition of sodium chloride as a modifier. Modified MF resin improved surface gloss and abrasion resistance of decorative paper and decreased the formaldehyde emission. Curing time of the MF resin decreased with the addition of sodium chloride.

Acid Sulfite Pulping of Hemp: Effects of Processing Conditions on Lyocell Pulp Quality

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science, EarlyView.
Industrial hemp is emerging as a promising renewable source for next‐generation textile fibers. This study evaluates whether acid sulfite pulping can produce hemp‐based dissolving pulp suitable for lyocell manufacturing. While the process is historically linked to increased cellulose accessibility, it did not achieve the low lignin content and ...

“Cold Tropics”: Permafrost Existence and Thickness on Eastern Nevado Coropuna (Southern Peruvian Andes) Revealed by Ground‐Penetrating Radar and Geoelectrical Soundings

open access: yesPermafrost and Periglacial Processes, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The existence of permafrost was explored at tropical latitude on Nevado Coropuna (southern Peruvian Andes) using a combination of ground‐penetrating radar (GPR) and vertical electrical sounding (VES) in order to strengthen the mutual validation of data processing and interpretation.

Cross‐Linking Mass Spectrometry of the Antimicrobial Peptides Magainin 2 and PGLa Reveals Heterodimerization in Micellar Medium

open access: yesRapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Rationale In this study, we applied cross‐linking mass spectrometry (XL‐MS) to characterize the oligomeric states of a PGLa/magainin 2 mixture and gain insight into the heterodimerization previously suggested in the literature. Both peptides have shown a synergistic enhancement of activity when tested in antimicrobial assays; however, the ...
