DESICCATION IN ORDINARY AND STUBBLE SOWING OF SUNFLOWER [PDF]

open access: yesPoljoprivreda, 2010
Aiming to determine desiccation impact on seed moisture and yield, impurity, oil content and sunflower price, in ordinary and stubble sowing (after chamomile and winter barley) field trials were set up on the areas of Bioagrar Ltd.

Desiccation resistance: effect of cuticular hydrocarbons and water content in Drosophila melanogaster adults

open access: yesPeerJ, 2018
Background The insect cuticle covers the whole body and all appendages and has bi-directionnal selective permeability: it protects against environmental stress and pathogen infection and also helps to reduce water loss.

Unlocking the Power of Quercetin‐Encapsulated Mesoporous Bioactive Glass Nanoparticles: A Multifunctional Approach to Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles (MBGNs) are investigated for bone regeneration given their remarkable structural and functional properties. MBGNs are functionalized with Mn and Cu and incorporated with quercetin, a natural flavonoid exhibiting antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties.

The scaling of carbon dioxide release and respiratory water loss in flying fruit flies (Drosophila spp.) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
By simultaneously measuring carbon dioxide release, water loss and flight force in several species of fruit flies in the genus Drosophila, we have investigated respiration and respiratory transpiration during elevated locomotor activity.

Adaptation to Aquatic and Terrestrial Environments in Chlorella vulgaris (Chlorophyta)

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2020
The globally distributed green microalga Chlorella vulgaris (Chlorophyta) colonizes aquatic and terrestrial habitats, but the molecular mechanisms underpinning survival in these two contrasting environments are far from understood.

Micropleated Nanofibrous Filters for High‐Efficiency Submicron Aerosol Filtration: A Comparative Study with Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Gas Mask Filters

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents micropleated filters manufactured by needleless electrospinning. Nanofibers are deposited onto uniaxially pre‐stretched substrates that contract upon release, forming densely packed micropleats. This architecture increases effective surface area without enlarging the filter size, achieving quality factors comparable to those of ...

secCl is a cys-loop ion channel necessary for the chloride conductance that mediates hormone-induced fluid secretion in Drosophila [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Organisms use circulating diuretic hormones to control water balance (osmolarity), thereby avoiding dehydration and managing excretion of waste products.

All for One: The Role of Colony Morphology in Bryophyte Desiccation Tolerance

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2019
In the last decade, several works showed that even bryophytes from aquatic environments, if slowly dehydrated, can cope with desiccation in a response like the one from desert bryophytes.

Investigating the Effects of Build Height on Mechanical Behavior of Large‐Scale Laser Wire Directed Energy Deposited Nickel Titanium Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser wire directed energy deposition process was leveraged to fabricate large scale NiTi alloy wall. Evaluation of build‐height‐dependent tribo‐mechanical properties revealed significant differences in location specific sample characteristics. The middle region achieved optimal performance (superior wear resistance, balanced strength‐ductility ...

Impacts of indoor surface finishes on bacterial viability. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Microbes in indoor environments are constantly being exposed to antimicrobial surface finishes. Many are rendered non-viable after spending extended periods of time under low-moisture, low-nutrient surface conditions, regardless of whether those surfaces
