Responses of the moss Tortula ruralis to desiccation treatments. II. Variations in desiccation tolerance

open access: yes, 1981
Variations in the apparent desiccation tolerance of the moss Tortula ruralis were traced to several causes. When the moss was kept continuously hydrated for several days, desiccation tolerance tended to decrease ("dehardening").

Mechanically Spatio‐Chimeric Fibrin Assembly Enables Vascular‐Integrated Muscle Reconstruction for Volumetric Muscle Loss Repair

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
SPARC (spatio‐chimeric, plasma‐based, anisotropic, and shear‐responsive construct) that integrates myogenic and vascular microenvironments within a single construct. The dual‐modulus matrix directs aligned myotube formation and endothelial network development, enabling a vascularized muscle implant that seamlessly anastomoses with host tissue and ...

Evolution of research on recalcitrant seeds

open access: yesScientia Agricola, 1998
Some comments about seeds that show sensitivity to desiccation and short viability period, called recalcitrants, were made. Further studies showed that there was a gradient of sensitivity to desiccation and an intermediate class was proposed.

AI–Guided 4D Printing of Carnivorous Plants–Inspired Microneedles for Accelerated Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents an artificial intelligence (AI)‐guided 4D‐printed microneedle platform inspired by carnivorous plants for wound healing. A thermo‐responsive shape memory polymer enables body temperature–triggered self‐coiling for autonomous wound closure.

Desiccation tolerant yet short-lived seeds: A conundrum for post-harvest handling of a high restoration value bunchgrass?

open access: yesPLoS ONE
The successful preservation of seeds for future use depends on factors that maintain or limit seed viability. Yet, seed biology knowledge that would facilitate seed storage of most wild species used in ecosystem restoration is absent.

Desiccation Tolerance in Listeria monocytogenes: Mechanisms and Importance for Food Safety

open access: yes, 2013
This study examined some of the environmental, physiological, and genetic factors or mechanisms which contribute to L. monocytogenes’ desiccation survival under food processing conditions.

Programmable 3D Photovoltaics via Mechanically Origami‐Coded Interlocked 3D Kirigami and Nano‐Root Anchored AgNWs–In–Ga Multiphasic Alloy Conductor

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Mechanically origami‐coded 3D kirigami photovoltaics convert a single extension–release cycle into deterministic self‐folding, reconfiguring planar solar cells into programmable 3D modules. Distinct coding strategies enable either ultrahigh stretchability (500% system strain) or ultrahigh initial effective areal coverage (225%).

Structural flexibility of a recombinant intrinsically disordered LEA protein from Ramonda serbica

open access: yesScientific Reports
Late embryogenesis abundant (LEA) proteins play a crucial role in the desiccation tolerance of resurrection plants, although their exact functions remain unclear. Therefore, we recombinantly produced desiccation-induced LEA4 protein member, RsLEAP30-His6,
