Characterization and preliminary heterosis evaluation of novel wheat genetically divergent populations

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Heterosis is an important approach to improving wheat yield and quality. Previously, five recurrent selection populations were established to broaden genetic diversity via a recurrent selection strategy using French wheat, Spelt wheat, spike-branched ...

Chiral separation of chloroalkanes with the chromatographic column onboard Martian rovers

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Computer image of the Rosalind Franklin Rover of ESA's ExoMars mission. ExoMars is scheduled to land on planet Mars in Oxia Planum in 2029. This area represents an interesting spot to look for biosignatures. Investigations of ExoMars include measurement on molecular chirality. We show that chiral chloroalkanes, that have been identified on Mars, can be

Beyond Data: Artificial intelligence, knowledge graphs, and the next revolution in wheat breeding

open access: yesPlant Communications
As a cornerstone of global food security, wheat (Triticum aestivum) faces unprecedented pressure from a growing population and a changing climate. However, traditional breeding approaches are increasingly insufficient to address the genetic complexity ...

L‐aspartate oxidase provides new insights into fumarate reduction in anaerobic darkness in Synechocystis sp. PCC6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Synechocystis strains deficient in succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) secrete more succinate than the WT under dark anaerobic conditions, supporting that SDH then primarily acts as SDH, not as a fumarate reductase. L‐aspartate oxidase (Laspo) from Synechocystis is functional under anaerobic conditions, reducing fumarate to succinate.

Rapid and High-Fidelity Fabrication of Embedded Elastomeric Photomask for Wafer-Scale Sub-Micrometer Conformal Contact Photolithography

open access: yesMicromachines
Photolithography is the mainstream technology used in micro/nanofabrication. While projection photolithography is widely used in production, with a resolution close to the wavelength of the light source, its processes are complicated and expensive ...

Artificial molecular machines and motors—Design and control of nanoscale motion

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Molecules are constantly moving because of thermal fluctuations, but random motion alone cannot be exploited to perform directional tasks. Artificial molecular machines use chemical, electrical, or light energy to bias this motion. Molecular shuttles, rotary motors, and supramolecular pumps illustrate how nanoscale movement can be controlled and ...

Development of Hexaploid Wheat Germplasm with Resistance to Both Powdery Mildew and Stripe Rust by Introgression of Pm60 and YrU1 from Triticum urartu

open access: yesPlants
Wheat powdery mildew and stripe rust, caused by Blumeria graminis f. sp. tritici (Bgt) and Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici (Pst), respectively, are two devastating diseases that threaten global wheat production. Long-term reliance on a limited number

The heterodimeric amino acid transporters (HAT) of the SLC7/SLC3 family: A structure−function relationships and relevance to human pathology

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Heterodimeric amino acid transporters consist of SLC7 and SLC3 family proteins arranged in a conserved structural organization. They regulate nutrient transport across cell membranes, supporting essential cellular functions. These transporters also contribute to xenobiotic/drug uptake and distribution.

A context‐dependent modulatory role for eIF6 in acquired resistance to vemurafenib in melanoma

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Acquired resistance to vemurafenib upregulates the translation factor eIF6 in melanoma cells. Silencing eIF6 in resistant cells reduces proliferation and partially restores drug sensitivity, whereas its overexpression increases sensitivity across melanoma lines regardless of BRAF status, via modulation of mTOR, S6K, and MAPK signaling.
