Designing 'Things' for the Internet of Things
SSRN Electronic Journal, 2016The “Internet of Things”, or IoT, is a new vision for the Internet, where the internet comes to include not only computers but also objects of everyday life. It is a challenge to objects and systems design and it is much more a concept than a new technology. A design approach is required to project new objects and new systems, including complex systems.

When and why did the turntable morph from playback device to musical instrument? Why have mobile phones evolved changeable skins? How many meanings can one attach to such mundane things as tennis balls? The answers to such questions illustrate this provocative book, which examines the cultural meanings of things and the role of designers in their ...

Smart thing design by children

Towards a Design Model for Things in Agents of Things
Proceedings of the International Conference on Internet of things and Cloud Computing, 2016The Internet of Things (IoT) is poised to augment the Internet by enabling machine to machine (M2M) communication. However, the machines, or 'things' lack of self-reasoning capability limits their potential applications in other value-added services. Consequently, we introduce the concept of Agents of Things (AoT) as an extension to the IoT, in which ...

10 Things for the Ideal Design RFP
Design Management Review, 2016RFPs can be an obstacle between a firm and the client, making it hard for both parties to evaluate the match. While it's important to request information from potential design partners that allows for side‐by‐side comparisons about capabilities, costs and approaches, you should also discern whether a firm is a good philosophical and culture fit.Ten ...
