A Microgel Platform Enables Site‐Specific Intestinal Delivery of Lactoferrin, Improving its Bioavailability for Targeted Alleviating Liver Injury and Colitis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 45, 13 August 2026.
This work first time reports an eco‐friendly desert plant food‐based polysaccharide ASKP microgels which have intestinal site‐specific release properties which can achieve small‐intestine or colon targeting capability via different cross‐linking chemistry.

Structural basis for assembly of non-canonical small subunits into type I-C Cascade

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
Type I-C Cascade (the CRISPR-associated complex for antiviral defense) is a minimal system, comprising only three unique Cas proteins. Cryo-EM structure of the Desulfovibrio vulgaris type I-C Cascade reveals the molecular mechanisms that underlie RNA ...

Interaction of the Gut Microbiota and the Enteric Nervous System: Implications in Gastrointestinal Disorders Associated With Autism Spectrum Disorder

open access: yesAutism Research, Volume 19, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by impairments in social interaction, restricted interests, and repetitive behaviors. In addition to these core behavioral symptoms, gastrointestinal (GI) disorders are frequently reported, ranging from severe constipation to diarrhea.

Northeast China Traditional Kimchi (Paocai) Probiotic Resources Metabolized Uric Acid and Relieved Hyperuricemia in Mice

open access: yeseFood, Volume 7, Issue 4, August 2026.
Traditional fermented Kimchi “paocai”, commonly consumed in Northeast China, was screened for probiotic resources capable of degrading uric acid in vitro and alleviating hyperuricemia in a mouse model. Abstract Current pharmacological therapies for hyperuricemia (HUA), though effective, pose safety concerns, including allopurinol‐induced severe dermal ...

Genetic basis for nitrate resistance in Desulfovibrio strains

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2014
Nitrate is an inhibitor of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB). In petroleum production sites, amendments of nitrate and nitrite are used to prevent SRB production of sulfide that causes souring of oil wells.

Gut microbiota‐targeted interventions for depression in adolescents and young adults: Mechanisms, evidence strength and clinical strategies—A narrative review

open access: yesGeneral Psychiatry, Volume 39, Issue 4, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Depression in adolescents and young adults is common, associated with substantial functional impairment and characterised by limited treatment efficacy. The microbiota–gut–brain (MGB) axis has emerged as a potential therapeutic target for depression.

Effect of ammonium concentration on methane oxidation and CO2 removal in an anaerobic biotrickling filter treating synthetic landfill gas and leachate

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Technology &Biotechnology, Volume 101, Issue 8, Page 1632-1642, August 2026.
Abstract BACKGROUND Landfill gas (LFG) and leachate are commonly treated separately through energy‐intensive processes. This study evaluated the integration of both streams in an anaerobic biotrickling filter (BTF) to achieve simultaneous methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) removal coupled with ammonium (NH4+) transformation, and how the microbial ...

Multiple single-cell genomes provide insight into functions of uncultured Deltaproteobacteria in the human oral cavity.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Despite a long history of investigation, many bacteria associated with the human oral cavity have yet to be cultured. Studies that correlate the presence or abundance of uncultured species with oral health or disease highlight the importance of these ...

Pituitary abscess syndrome in a greater kudu (Tragelaphus strepsiceros)

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 3, August 2026.
Abstract An adult male greater kudu (Tragelaphus strepsiceros) presented for a fractured distal left horn. Twelve weeks later, lethargy, pruritus and left periocular swelling were noted. Avulsion of the left horn occurred 1 month later, revealing a necrotic horn base.
