Tabulated Chemistry Models for Numerical Simulation of Combustion Flow Field

open access: yesFluids
In numerical simulations of combustion flow fields, tabulated chemistry models are widely used to reduce computational cost compared to rigorous reaction calculation methods such as detailed chemical reaction calculations.

Global cloud and precipitation chemistry and wet deposition: tropospheric model simulations with ECHAM5/MESSy1 [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2007
The representation of cloud and precipitation chemistry and subsequent wet deposition of trace constituents in global atmospheric chemistry models is associated with large uncertainties.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Technical Note: Simulation of detailed aerosol chemistry on the global scale using MECCA-AERO [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2007
We present the MESSy submodel MECCA-AERO, which simulates both aerosol and gas phase chemistry within one comprehensive mechanism. Including the aerosol phase into the chemistry mechanism increases the stiffness of the resulting set of differential ...

Ray tracing calculations in simulated propellant flames with detailed chemistry

open access: yesApplied Optics, 2019
Optical measurements in propellant flames are necessary to understand the combustion physics, yet these conditions provide challenges in probing the flame and may introduce uncertainty into the measurement. This work reports the use of simulations of an ammonium perchlorate propellant flame with finite rate chemistry to understand the role of ammonium ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Scale dependence of the episodic hydrochemical response of nested catchments at Plynlimon [PDF]

open access: yesHydrology and Earth System Sciences, 1997
Previous monitoring of the surface water chemistry of the forested catchments at Plynlimon has concentrated on weekly measurements. Hence, peak values and details of the rapid changes in chemistry occurring during events tend to be missed, particularly ...
