Chronobiology of Cancer: How Aging Fuels Oncogenesis at the Molecular Level

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
This graphical abstract illustrates the key biological pathways linking aging with cancer development and progression. In the upper left, cumulative exposure to ultraviolet radiation, toxins, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) causes DNA damage and genomic instability, whereas age‐related decline in repair mechanisms, such as ATM/ATR, BER, and NER ...

Computationally efficient face detection

Proceedings Eighth IEEE International Conference on Computer Vision. ICCV 2001, 2002
This paper describes an algorithm for finding faces within an image. The basis of the algorithm is to run an observation window at all possible positions, scales and orientation within the image. A non-linear support vector machine is used to determine whether or not a face is contained within the observation window.

The efficient detection of Korotkoff sounds

Medical & Biological Engineering, 1968
A new method is described for detecting the Korotkoff sounds which signal systolic and diastolic blood pressure. By mounting a sound transducer wholly within the conventional arm-encircling cuff, high intensity sounds can be detected with the cuff placed in any location on the upper arm.

Energy efficiency of multiuser detection

WCNC. 1999 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (Cat. No.99TH8466), 2003
We study the power consumption of several multiuser detectors in the power controlled DS-CDMA system. The matched-filter detector, linear MMSE detector, successive interference cancellation (SIC), and LMMSE-SIC are considered. Closed form analysis and numerical results show that by using a multiuser detector, system power consumption can significantly ...
