In the article ‘Gregory's meridian line of 1673–74: a St Andrew's detective story’ (BSHM Bulletin, 23 (2008), 58–72), John C Amson referred to other important ecclesiastical meridian lines in the Duomo in Florence (1468), the Basilica of San Petronio in Bologna (1576), and in Santa Sophia in Constantinople (1437).

Skvorecký has been a devoted admirer and practitioner of mystery writing for a quarter of a century. He has written original detective stories, translated Hammett and Chandler, and has also written several brief essays on the sub-genre.
