Electrochemical and Infrared Absorption Spectroscopy Detection of SF6 Decomposition Products

open access: yesSensors, 2017
Sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) gas-insulated electrical equipment is widely used in high-voltage (HV) and extra-high-voltage (EHV) power systems. Partial discharge (PD) and local heating can occur in the electrical equipment because of insulation faults ...

S^3FD: Single Shot Scale-Invariant Face Detector [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE International Conference on Computer Vision, 2017
This paper presents a real-time face detector, named Single Shot Scale-invariant Face Detector (S3FD), which performs superiorly on various scales of faces with a single deep neural network, especially for small faces.

Particle Detectors

open access: yesPhysics Reports, 1981
AbstractThe principles of instruments used for detecting and identifying high energy particles are reviewed. Recent progress in techniques and materials is included. A few realizations of detector systems are described.

Effects of chronic browsing on life‐history traits of an irruptive large herbivore population

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
This study aimed to determine the relationship between diet quality, body mass, and size (hind foot length), and female reproduction and sought to identify the mechanism by which high density under severe food limitations is maintained. Our results demonstrated that sika deer introduced to Nakanoshima Island have maintained high densities through high ...

THE ANTARES DETECTOR

open access: yesInternational Journal of Modern Physics A, 2005
ANTARES is a neutrino telescope under construction in the Mediterranean Sea at the depth of 2500 m, about 40 km off the French coast. A short review of its design and expected performances is presented as well as the status of the project.

Combining transient dynamics and logistic‐asymptotic growth to study the recovery of two seabird populations after rat eradication

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
This study examines the demographic dynamics of two seabird populations on Tromelin Island, 15 years after the eradication of brown rats. The results indicate that these populations are in good health and are expected to continue growing until breeding sites are saturated in about a century.

Simulations of Benzene and Hydrogen-Sulfide Gas Detector Based on Single-Walled Carbon Nanotube over Intrinsic 4H-SiC Substrate

open access: yesMicromachines, 2020
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs)-based sensors have gained significant importance due to their tremendous electrical and physical attributes. CNT-based gas sensors have high sensitivity, stability, and fast response time compared to that of solid-state sensors ...

Accelerators and detectors [PDF]

open access: yesReviews of Modern Physics, 1999
The developing understanding of particle physics, especially in the past 60 or so years, has been largely paced by the evolution of high-energy accelerators and detectors. We restrict ourselves here to describing crucial developments in accelerators related to high-energy particle collisions.

The CUORE Detector and Results [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Low Temperature Physics, 2020
The cryogenic underground observatory for rare events (CUORE) is a cryogenic experiment searching for neutrinoless double beta decay ($$0\nu \beta \beta$$) of $${^{130}\hbox {Te}}$$. The detector consists of an array of $$988\,{\hbox {TeO}_{2}}$$ crystals arranged in a compact cylindrical structure of 19 towers.

The unpredictably eruptive dynamics of spruce budworm populations in eastern Canada

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
We examine historical population data for spruce budworm from several locations through the period 1930–1997, and use density‐dependent recruitment curves to test whether the pattern of population growth over time is more consistent with Royama's (1984; Ecological Monographs 54:429–462) linear R(t) model of harmonic oscillation at Green River New ...
