Robust coupling between the C‐tactile afferent and the hair follicle in humans

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, Volume 603, Issue 16, Page 4593-4608, 15 August 2025.
Abstract figure legend A single hair was carefully deflected using forceps during microneurography, which facilitates direct recording of single nerve fibre responses in awake participants. Recordings from 15 consecutive C‐tactile (CT) afferents, where the response to hair deflection was investigated, showed that individual CT afferents respond to ...

Thrust Ripple Analysis and Precise Modeling of 12/13 Slot-Pole Linear Flux-Switching Permanent Magnet Motors

open access: yesCES Transactions on Electrical Machines and Systems
Linear flux-switching permanent magnet motors (LFSPMs) have been proposed for long stator applications such as rail transit. However, the conventional linear permanent magnet synchronous motor (LPMSM) suffers from thrust ripple, which degrades the motor ...

DuckyDog: An Erect Amphibious Robot with Variable‐Stiffness Legs and Passive Fins

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 7, July 2025.
DuckyDog, a quadruped amphibious robot using erect posture, is proposed with dog‐inspired tendon‐driven compliant legs for walking and paddling, a duck‐inspired body for buoyancy, and passive fins to increase propulsion. It achieves maximum speeds of 0.4 body lengths per second on land and 0.3 on water, demonstrating the ability to navigate in complex ...

Living the spectre of forced return: negotiating deportability in British immigration detention [PDF]

open access: yesMigration Studies, 2018
Abstract Immigration detention and deportation are being increasingly utilised in many countries as key state responses to irregular migration. These practices work together to force migrants to their countries of origin or third countries, offering limited choice about whether to stay or leave.

First Nations Aboriginal Ring Trees in New South Wales—Establishing a Cultural Context and Basic Archaeological Recording Typology

open access: yesArchaeology in Oceania, Volume 60, Issue 2, Page 156-175, July 2025.
ABSTRACT This paper examines ring trees—a type of culturally modified tree, intentionally created by Australian First Nations Aboriginal peoples by manipulating tree growth to form permanent loops (rings) within the structure. Historically, this site type has been underrepresented and underappreciated by academics and archaeologists.

No thanks: How an ideology of sharing, not reciprocating, ensures abundance in the forests of south‐eastern Cameroon

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 7, Issue 5, Page 1041-1055, May 2025.
Abstract Reciprocity and relationality are themes which frequently emerge with respect to human–nature associations in Indigenous groups around the world. But many hunter‐gatherers have been shown to reject systems of reciprocity, instead favouring unconditional sharing both between each other and their environment through egalitarian social structures.

Characteristics investigation of single-sided ironless pmlsm based on halbach array for medium-speed Maglev train

open access: yesCES Transactions on Electrical Machines and Systems, 2017
This paper investigates characteristics of ironless permanent magnet linear synchronous motor (PMLSM) based on Halbach array used for medium-speed (200km/h) maglev train. Long primary ironless coil is laid in the middle of track and the Halbach permanent

Investigation of the Detent Force Characteristics of an X-Y Linear Synchronous Motor

open access: yesJournal of the Magnetics Society of Japan, 2010
This paper discusses our examination into a decrease in detent force to improve the positioning accuracy of an X-Y linear synchronous motor (X-Y LSM). The finite element method was used to analyze detent force and static thrust. The detent force was decreased by changing the distance between the mover magnet centers of the X-Y LSM.
