Detonation Initiation Studies and Performance Results for Pulsed Detonation Engine Applications
39th Aerospace Sciences Meeting and Exhibit, 2001Abstract : An in-house computational and experimental program to investigate and develop an air breathing pulse detonation engine (PDE) that uses a practical fuel (kerosene based, fleet-wide use, JP type) is currently underway at the Combustion Sciences Branch of the Turbine Engine Division of the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL/PRTS).

Investigating the flow characteristics and thermodynamic performance of curved detonation waves
The Physics of Fluids, 2023Oblique detonation waves (ODWs) are induced by oblique shock waves (OSWs) and hold significant research value for air-breathing ramjet engines due to their high thermodynamic efficiency and specific impulse.

Propulsive Performances of Pulsed Detonations
Combustion Science and Technology, 1999The propulsive potential of a reactive mixture that uses detonation as a combustion process is studied. An experimental set up is built up to determine the thrust and the impulse developed in single and multi-operating cycles by the detonation products of a reactive mixture contained in a cylindrical combustion chamber (CC).

QUANTITATIVE STUDIES OF DETONATOR PERFORMANCE
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2009Detonators are widely used in explosive applications, with commercial systems being mass produced from a number of suppliers. One issue that affects producers and users is the reproducibility and output of the explosive system. This can be considered from both the component parts and as the fully assembled detonator.

Performance estimates of pulsed detonation engines
Proceedings of the Combustion Institute, 2000Pulsed detonation engines have recentlyreceived increasing attention. Various advantages claimed for the pulsed detonation engines depend on performance estimates. A review of previous computational studies of pulsed detonation engines shows a wide variation in the predicted performance of even an idealized system.

Numerical modelling of detonation performance
Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. Series A: Physical and Engineering Sciences, 1992Detonation performance is defined in terms of the steady state wave structure of the detonation front, and the initiation behaviour of the explosive. Some common techniques for modelling detonation performance are described, based on semi-analytic hydrodynamic and computational fluid dynamic reactive flow models.
