Statistical properties of detrended fluctuation analysis

open access: yesJournal of Statistical Computation and Simulation, 2010
The main goal of this work is to consider the detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA), proposed by Peng et al. [Mosaic organization of DNA nucleotides, Phys. Rev. E. 49(5) (1994), 1685–1689]. This is a well-known method for analysing the long-range dependence in non-stationary time series.

Medial parapatellar surgical approach leads to greater loss of postural sway complexity compared to mid‐vastus approach in women undergoing total knee arthroplasty

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is associated with acute postoperative effects that increase the risk of falls. These effects differ between the medial parapatellar (PP) and mid‐vastus (MV) surgical techniques but have not been evaluated in terms of postural sway complexity.

A Multivariate Method for Dynamic System Analysis: Multivariate Detrended Fluctuation Analysis Using Generalized Variance

open access: yesTopics in Cognitive Science, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract Fractal fluctuations are a core concept for inquiries into human behavior and cognition from a dynamic systems perspective. Here, we present a generalized variance method for multivariate detrended fluctuation analysis (mvDFA). The advantage of this extension is that it can be applied to multivariate time series and considers intercorrelation ...

Nonlinear stratospheric variability: multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis and singularity spectra

open access: yes, 2016
Characterising the stratosphere as a turbulent system, temporal fluctuations often show different correlations for different time scales as well as intermittent behaviour that cannot be captured by a single scaling exponent.

Aquatic and Littoral Successions in Various Post‐Mining Sites—Patterns and Possible Use in Ecological Restoration

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Vegetation succession in aquatic and littoral habitats has received much less attention than terrestrial habitats have. We sampled differently aged successional stages at five different types of post‐mining sites, that is, sandpits, stone quarries, clay quarries, brown coal spoil heaps and black coal subsidences, across the Czech Republic ...

Long-range correlations in rectal temperature fluctuations of healthy infants during maturation. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2009
BACKGROUND:Control of breathing, heart rate, and body temperature are interdependent in infants, where instabilities in thermoregulation can contribute to apneas or even life-threatening events.

Pallidal Evoked Resonant Neural Activity as a Candidate Biomarker for Deep Brain Stimulation in Dystonia

open access: yesMovement Disorders, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Deep brain stimulation (DBS) targeted to the globus pallidus (GP) can effectively alleviate dystonia symptoms. However, identifying optimal therapeutic stimulation parameters is challenging due to the manual programming process and the paucity of acute effects of DBS on dystonia symptoms.

Investigating detrended fluctuation analysis with structural breaks [PDF]

open access: yesPhysica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 2019
Abstract Detrended Fluctuation Analysis has been used in several fields of science to study the statistical properties of trend stationary and nonstationary time-series. Its application to financial data has produced important results concerning long-range correlations and long-memory.

Identifying Out‐of‐Voxel Echoes in Edited MRS With Phase Cycle Inversion

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose To identify the origin of out‐of‐voxel (OOV) signals based on the coherence transfer pathway (CTP) formalism using signal phase conferred by the acquisition phase cycling scheme. Knowing the CTP driving OOV artifacts enables optimization of crusher gradients to improve their suppression.

Addressing biases in sliding window analysis gives new insight into the response of parturition date to weather in a wild mammal

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Animal breeding phenology in temperate and high latitude regions is often predicted by weather variables, such as temperature. Much work on this topic has focused on taxonomic groups that employ adaptive plastic responses to annual variation in an environmental cue, with analytical approaches developed to determine when weather has an effect and the ...
