Plasma Temperature Inference from Deuterium-Tritium/Deuterium-Deuterium Neutron Discrimination

Nuclear Science and Engineering, 2015
AbstractDeuterium-deuterium and deuterium-tritium reaction rates may be compared to determine plasma temperatures in the 10- to 200-eV range. Distinguishing neutrons from these two reactions is difficult when yields are low or unpredictable. Time-of-flight (TOF) methods fail if the source is extended in time. These neutrons may be distinguished because

Hydrogen embrittlement of tungsten induced by deuterium plasma: Insights from nanoindentation tests

Journal of Materials Research, 2018
Hydrogen exposure has been found to result in metal embrittlement. In this work, we use nanoindentation to study the mechanical properties of polycrystalline tungsten subjected to deuterium plasma exposure.

The effect of the deuterium depleted water on the biological activity of the eukaryotic cells.

Journal of Trace Elements in Medicine and Biology, 2018
Here we show the dependence of the unicellular biosensor S.ambigua lifespan on the water D/H isotopic composition. This dependence is bell-shaped with descents both in case of deficiency or excess of deuterium in water.

Deuterium NQR in samples dilute in deuterium

Journal of Magnetic Resonance (1969), 1978
Abstract To demonstrate its high sensitivity in the detection of the nuclear quadrupole resonance of deuterium, double resonance with continuous coupling (D RC C) is used to obtain the spectrum of formic acid with deuterium present only in natural (0.0156%) abundance.

WILDCAT: A Commercial Deuterium-Deuterium Tokamak Reactor

Nuclear Technology - Fusion, 1983
WILDCAT is a conceptual design of a catalyzed deuterium-deuterium tokamak commercial fusion reactor. WILDCAT utilizes the beneficial features of no tritium breeding, while not extrapolating unnecessarily from existing deuterium-tritium (D-T) designs. The reactor is larger and has higher magnetic fields and plasma pressures than typical D-T devices.

Aggravated blistering and increased deuterium retention in iron-damaged tungsten after exposure to deuterium plasma with various surface temperatures

Nuclear Fusion, 2018
Effects of iron ion pre-irradiation with energy of 1 MeV on deuterium retention and blistering in tungsten has been investigated after exposure to low-energy (40 eV) and high flux (~1022 D m−2 s−1) deuterium plasma under high fluence of 1  ×  1026 D m−2 ...

Deuterium inventory in Tore Supra: Coupled carbon–deuterium balance

Journal of Nuclear Materials, 2013
This paper presents an analysis of the carbon–deuterium circulation and the resulting balance in Tore Supra over the period 2002–2007. Carbon balance combines the estimation of carbon gross erosion from spectroscopy, net erosion and deposition using confocal microscopy, lock-in thermography and SEM, and a measure of the amount of deposits collected in ...

Deuterium-deuterium fusion by an activated precursor

Il Nuovo Cimento D, 1991
A general scheme is proposed for the interpretation of the phenomena involving low-energy hydrogen-isotope fusion. This scheme is especially developed for the interpretation of the fusion rate observed after the impact of heavy-water clusters (D2O) n , 25≲n≲1350, onto targets of titanium deuteride TiD. It is shown that

Cross Section for Cold Deuterium-Deuterium Fusion

Fusion Technology, 1990
Conventional estimates of cold deuterium-deuterium (D-D) fusion rate and branching ratio may not be reliable, since they are based on an extrapolation of the reaction cross sections at higher energies ({ge}4 keV) to lower energies where no direct measurements exist.
