Evolution of the gene regulatory network of body axis by enhancer hijacking in amphioxus
A central goal of evolutionary developmental biology is to decipher the evolutionary pattern of gene regulatory networks (GRNs) that control embryonic development, and the mechanism underlying GRNs evolution.

Switchable Nitroproteome States of Phytophthora infestans Biology and Pathobiology
The study demonstrates protein tyrosine nitration as a functional post-translational modification (PTM) in biology and pathobiology of the oomycete Phytophthora infestans (Mont.) de Bary, the most harmful pathogen of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.).

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Distinct mechanisms underlie pattern formation in the skin and skin appendages
Patterns form with the break of homogeneity and lead to the emergence of new structure or arrangement. There are different physiological and pathological mechanisms that lead to the formation of patterns.

In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Patterning by cell-to-cell communication
This thesis addresses the question of how patterning may arise through cell-to-cell communication. It combines quantitative data analysis with computational techniques to understand biological patterning processes.

The role of hydrological transience in peatland pattern formation
The sloping flanks of peatlands are commonly patterned with non-random, contour-parallel stripes of distinct microhabitats such as hummocks, lawns and hollows.
