Large deviations techniques for long-range interactions
In this Chapter we will present some applications of the large deviations technique to the calculation of entropy and free-energy of systems with long-range interactions. Indeed, most of the examples we will treat are simple mean-field models.

Biophysical approaches for studying viral entry
Viruses infect all living organisms and have been responsible for major epidemics and pandemics. Their ongoing evolutionary battle with host defenses creates a constant need for improved tools to study viral behavior. Advancing methods to probe viral attachment, fusion, and genome release deepen our understanding of how infections begin and support the

The Law of One Price Without the Border: The Role of Distance Versus Sticky Prices [PDF]
We examine the role of nominal price rigidities in explaining the deviations from the Law of One Price (LOP) across cities in Japan. Focusing on intra-national relative prices isolates the border effect and thus enables us to extract the pure effect of ...

The human gut microbiome across the life course
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Portfolio Diversification Under Local, Moderate and Global Deviations From Power Laws [PDF]
This paper focuses on the analysis of portfolio diversification for a wide class of nonlinear transformations of heavy-tailed risks. We show that diversification of a portfolio of nonlinear transformations of thick-tailed risks increases riskiness if ...

This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Nonlinear predictability of short-run deviations in UK stock market returns
Using an exponential smooth transition threshold (ESTR) error-correction model, we examine whether return dynamics in a price dividend cointegration framework differ between large and small deviations.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.
