Modeling Biocemented Sands: Hypoplastic Model for MICP‐Based Ground Improvement

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Bio‐cementation offers a sustainable and low‐carbon alternative to conventional ground improvement methods, aligning with the growing demand for green geotechnical solutions. To enable reliable numerical simulation of bio‐cemented soil behavior in engineering applications, advanced constitutive models are required to account for the effects of

An Anisotropic Multi-plane Elastic-Damage Model with Axial and Shear Damage and Its Application to Concrete Behavior

open access: yes, 2017
The prediction of material response is necessary for the analysis of structure under static or dynamic loading. Mathematical modeling of the nonlinear tri-dimensional mechanical behavior of quasi-brittle materials like concrete caused by damaging and ...

Overshooting of Hypoplastic Models With Intergranular Strain: Manifestation, Implications and Remedy

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Intergranular strain extensions of hypoplasticity (IGS, ISA, GIS) are widely used to model small‐strain and cyclic soil behaviour. However, recent studies and our own simulations reveal that these models can exhibit stress overshooting not only under repeated small loading cycles but also during monotonic loading.

Verification of a novel stress path method by true-triaxial test

open access: yesScientific Reports
To verify the novel method of achieving a true-triaxial stress path with the pseudo-triaxial apparatus, a series of drained and undrained tests were carried out for the identical scheme with pseudo-triaxial apparatus and true-triaxial apparatus ...

Determination of critical state line (CSL) for silty-sandy iron ore tailings subjected to low-high confining pressures

open access: yesJournal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering
The disposal of filtered tailings in high dry stacks can induce particle breakage, changing the material's behaviour during the structure's lifetime.

Large-scale true triaxial tests on strength characteristics of coarse-grained soils

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2018
In order to obtain the strength evolution of coarse-grained soils under three-dimensional stress conditions, a series of true triaxial tests under different intermediate principal stress ratios (also called b value) are conducted for a kind of sandstone ...

Experimental and Numerical Thermo‐Mechanical Characterization of Polylactic Acid Fabricated by Fused Filament Fabrication

open access: yesPolymer Engineering &Science, EarlyView.
Experimental and numerical framework for characterizing the thermomechanical response of polylactic acid fabricated by fused filament fabrication. ABSTRACT This study investigates the thermomechanical response of polylactic acid (PLA) specimens fabricated by fused filament fabrication (FFF) at two nozzle temperatures (190°C and 230°C), while mechanical

Failure mechanism and fracture aperture characteristics of hard thick main roof based on voussoir beam structure in longwall coal mining

open access: yesEnergy Science & Engineering, 2020
The mechanism and fracture aperture of thick hard roof failure were theoretically analyzed from the perspective of elastoplastic mechanics. A uniform load cantilever beam was established by considering the voussoir beam structure and stress condition ...

A new smooth failure criterion for concrete inspired by Lubliner's condition

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract A new failure criterion with 10 parameters is proposed, based on Lubliner's idea of joining two Drucker–Prager cones. The novelty lies in the way of introducing deviatoric shape variation: through two Podgórski's functions. This feature allows for improving plane stress cross‐section's compatibility with experimental data.

NSIFs estimation based on the averaged strain energy density under in-plane mixed mode loading

open access: yes, 2016
In this work three methods for the rapid calculation of the NSIFs, based on the averaged strain energy density (SED), are compared. The first method was proposed by Lazzarin et al.
