The immunomodulatory mechanism of dexmedetomidine

International Immunopharmacology, 2021
Dexmedetomidine has been increasingly introduced into the perioperative care of surgical patients. Because a subset of anesthetics/sedatives are immunomodulatory, it is critical to understand the role of dexmedetomidine in our host immune functions. Here we reviewed the role of dexmedetomidine in different immune cells.

Dexmedetomidine and procedural sedation

Anaesthesia and intensive care, 2011
A letter from M. J. Keane about the use of dexmedetomidine for procedural sedation is presented. It cites the several issues with regards to dexmedetomidine use that anaesthesia providers should consider, including whether dexmedetomidine can be used for procedural sedation without local anaesthetic blocks, and concerns with regards to dosing.
