The immunomodulatory mechanism of dexmedetomidine
International Immunopharmacology, 2021Dexmedetomidine has been increasingly introduced into the perioperative care of surgical patients. Because a subset of anesthetics/sedatives are immunomodulatory, it is critical to understand the role of dexmedetomidine in our host immune functions. Here we reviewed the role of dexmedetomidine in different immune cells.

Neuroprotection by dexmedetomidine
2007An anaesthetic/sedative agent will proceed to evaluation of neuroprotective efficacy in a clinical trial when two major prerequisites are fulfilled: first, a body of preclinical evidence for its neuroprotective effects is necessary, second, circumstantial information from human use must be available.

Dexmedetomidine and procedural sedation
Anaesthesia and intensive care, 2011A letter from M. J. Keane about the use of dexmedetomidine for procedural sedation is presented. It cites the several issues with regards to dexmedetomidine use that anaesthesia providers should consider, including whether dexmedetomidine can be used for procedural sedation without local anaesthetic blocks, and concerns with regards to dosing.
