Origin, geochemical characteristics and filling pathways in the Shadegan oil field, Dezful Embayment, SW Iran

Journal of African Earth Sciences, 2021
Abstract The Shadegan oil field is one of the fields in the central part of the Dezful Embayment. Little or no geochemical studies have been performed previously in this field. This paper provides valuable information to answer most of the geochemistry ambiguities and issues in this field.

Variation of subsidence in the Dezful Embayment, SW Iran: influence of reactivated basement structures

Arabian Journal of Geosciences, 2019
Subsidence analyses over the past 140 Ma in 15 wells in the Dezful Embayment, which is the main oil-producing area in the Zagros fold and thrust belt, SW Iran, have significantly improved our understanding of the post-Jurassic evolution of the basin. A number of regional-scale tectonic events since the Early Cretaceous were separated by tectonically ...

Structural style and kinematic analysis of folding in the southern Dezful Embayment oilfields, SW Iran

Journal of Structural Geology, 2020
Abstract Compression of a region containing multiple detachment layers produces large-scale disharmonic folding, where individual competent units separated by detachment fold independently within the succession. Here, we present a case study of the kinematic evolution of three subsurface structures (the Karanj, Paranj and Parsi oilfields) bounded by ...

Contractional salt-tectonic system in the south Dezful embayment, Zagros

Journal of Structural Geology, 2020
Abstract The Dezful embayment in Zagros has traditionally been interpreted as a typical fold belt with multiple detachment levels, including a lower detachment at the basement-cover interface and an upper detachment along the Miocene Gachsaran halite-bearing evaporites.

Sequence Stratigraphy of Pabdeh Formation in Dezful Embayment (Zagros Basin) SW Iran

GEO 2010, 2010
Pabdeh Formation (upper Eocene-Oligocene) is a carbonate dominated sedimentary package with shale -marl intervals. This Formation was studied the type section (Kuh-E-Gurpi) and four boreholes located in Dezful Embayment (Zagros Basin). The Pabdeh Formation comprises three depositional sequences bounded by Type I sequence boundary in lower part and both

Geochemical Source Rocks Evaluation and Hydrocarbons Studies in North of Dezful Embayment

Proceedings, 2012
In the context of this evaluation, the most relevant ones are the Lower Cretaceous Garau, and Middle to Upper Cretaceous Kazhdumi and Gurpi Formations and the Tertiary Pabdeh. The potential source rocks investigated include the Pabdeh, Kazhdumi and Garau Formations.

Conceptual modeling of onshore hydrocarbon seep occurrence in the Dezful Embayment, SW Iran

Marine and Petroleum Geology, 2013
Petroleum and gas seeps on the ground surface are direct indicators of accumulations of hydrocarbons in the subsurface and could reflect the migration of hydrocarbons in a sedimentary basin. Quantitative analyses of the spatial pattern of hydrocarbon seeps and their spatial associations with geological features could aid in deducing geological controls

Formation evaluation in Dezful embayment of Iran using oil-based-mud imaging techniques

Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering, 2014
Abstract Structural delineation and fracture characterization are two of the main issues for the evaluation of carbonate reservoirs in structurally complex areas. Some of such fields are located in the southwest (Dezful embayment) of Iran. Getting to the Asmari reservoir is not so easy in some cases due to structural complexities where a thick pile ...

Factors Controlling the Unusual Oil Composition Distribution in the Bangestan Reservoir, Dezful Embayment, SW Iran

Russian Geology and Geophysics, 2020
Abstract —Petroleum geochemical characteristics are a major parameter of hydrocarbon field development. The present study is an attempt to decipher the unusual Bangestan (Cretaceous age) oil distribution throughout the Ahvaz oil field, SW Iran, based on the SARA test and GC–MS analysis of selected oil samples.
