Breast milk docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) correlates with DHA status of malnourished infants [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Disease in Childhood, 2000
To investigate whether low docosahexaenoic acid (22:6omega3; DHA) status of malnourished, mostly breast fed infants is a result of low omega3 fatty acid intake via breast milk.Fatty acid composition of breast milk of eight Pakistani mothers, and of the erythrocytes of their malnourished children was analysed. The milk of the Pakistani mothers contained ...

The Effects of Enzyme Pretreatment Extraction on Lipid Recovery With Normal Phase HPLC

open access: yesJournal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT With the increasing interest in the commercialization of microalgal fermentation‐based products, sustainable and efficient oil extraction methods have been developed for manufacturing and analytical testing. Due to the variability and resilience of micro‐algae cell walls, traditional lipid extraction methods such as Folch and Bligh and Dyer ...

Dietary supplementation with seed oil from transgenic Camelina sativa induces similar increments in plasma and erythrocyte DHA and EPA to fish oil in healthy humans [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
EPA and DHA are required for normal cell function and can also induce health benefits. Oily fish are the main source of EPA and DHA for human consumption.

Dual Functions of Dietary Rubber Seed Oil Supplementation: Enriching N‐3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids and Enhancing Antioxidant Capacity in Pekin Ducks

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Dietary RSO supplementation improved growth performance, simultaneously enriched n‐3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n‐3 PUFA), and enhanced antioxidant capacity in Pekin ducks, which suggested that RSO has the potential to be a novel n‐3 PUFA source and an antioxidant for Pekin ducks to generate animal functional foods.

Selenomethionine Regulates the Arachidonic Acid Metabolism‐Ferroptosis‐Inflammation Axis to Ameliorate Colitis

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Selenomethionine can ameliorate arachidonic acid‐induced colonic injury through synergistic mechanisms, including alleviating inflammatory responses, improving barrier integrity, enhancing antioxidant capacity by upregulating selenoprotein expression, selectively regulating AA metabolism to reduce pro‐inflammatory oxylipins and promote the production ...

Flatfishes colonised freshwater environments by acquisition of various DHA biosynthetic pathways

open access: yes, 2020
The colonisation of freshwater environments by marine fishes has historically been considered a result of adaptation to low osmolality. However, most marine fishes cannot synthesise the physiologically indispensable fatty acid, docosahexaenoic acid (DHA),

Enhancing Meat Quality Through Dietary Fiber: Insights Into the Gut Microbiota‐Derived Short‐Chain Fatty Acids‐Muscle Axis

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Dietary fiber (DF) modulates meat quality through the gut‐muscle axis by reshaping gut microbiota, improving intestinal integrity, reducing inflammation, and regulating muscle metabolism. These mechanisms influence muscle fiber characteristics and post‐mortem biochemistry, thereby enhancing tenderness, juiciness, color, flavor, and nutritional value of
