Adverse Cardiovascular Risk Profile and Increased Diurnal Salivary Cortisol in Girls With Turner Syndrome: An Exploratory Study

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part C: Seminars in Medical Genetics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Patients with Turner Syndrome (TS) and those exposed to high concentrations of glucocorticoids have a number of characteristics in common, including an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Pediatric TS patients underwent studies of salivary cortisol (SC) and cortisone (SCn), body composition, continuous glucose monitoring, vascular ...

Machine Learning Prediction of Cardiovascular Risk in Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus Using Radiomics Features from Multimodal Retinal Images [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
This study aimed to develop a machine learning (ML) algorithm capable of determining cardiovascular risk in multimodal retinal images from patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus, distinguishing between moderate, high, and very high-risk levels. Radiomic features were extracted from fundus retinography, optical coherence tomography (OCT), and OCT ...

Visualizing Turner Syndrome

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part C: Seminars in Medical Genetics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Turner syndrome (TS) continues to present a diagnostic challenge to healthcare professionals. The diagnostic challenges associated with TS result in delayed treatment and clinical care. Here we provide an update of the physical appearance of girls and women with TS by presenting clinical photographs and detailed clinical descriptions of 25 ...

Improved husbandry measures to enhance reproducibility of wound healing studies in the Leprdb/db mouse

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Though the Leprdb/db mouse is a common and well‐studied model of type II diabetes mellitus, there are a few specific guidelines for its husbandry, and wound complications are common. We present a modified husbandry approach for the Leprdb/db mouse that includes increased cage size, decreased housing density, and more frequent cage changes.

Comparison of the effects of metformin, citral, Cymbopogon citratus extract and silver nanoparticles of Cymbopogon citratus extract on oxidative stress indices and Nrf2 levels in experimental type 2 diabetes in rats

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
The experimental type 2 diabetes model in rats induced by streptozotocin and nicotinamide showed that silver nanoparticles synthesized from lemongrass extract modulate blood glucose, water and food intake, and enhance antioxidant enzyme synthesis and weight gains.
