Using Soil and Foliar Analysis to Diagnose the Nutritional Status of Urban Trees
Arboriculture & Urban Forestry, 1995During the past years, increased knowledge about the nutritional status of solitary trees has led to the development of soil and foliar analysis as a tool for the assessment of both chloride damage and nutrient deficiencies in The Netherlands. Data on threshold levels per tree species and element proportions are summarized. This enables the arborist to

Diagnosing the Sulfur Requirements of Corn and Wheat using Foliar Analysis
Soil Science Society of America Journal, 1981Abstract Beaufils' diagnosis and recommendation integrated system (DRIS) has been successfully applied in the past to the diagnosis of NPK imbalances in various crops. The DRIS approach utilizes indices that reflect the degree of nutrient imbalance by measuring the extent to which a particular nutrient deviates ...

The Use of Seasonal Foliar Color Changes to Diagnose Stress in Eastern White Pine
Arboriculture & Urban Forestry, 1990Eastern white pine is one of the most popular landscape trees in the Eastern United States, and its decline has been observed by the authors for over 20 years in Virginia. To the arborist, landscaper, and tree owner this disease is very hard to detect in its early stages because of the complex nature and variability of the decline syndrome. It might be

MISLEADING ZINC DEFICIENCY DIAGNOSES IN POME FRUIT AND INAPPROPRIATE USE OF FOLIAR ZINC SPRAYS
Acta Horticulturae, 2002Many researchers and field managers consider Zn the most limiting micronutrient for tree fruit production. A threshold concentration of 18-20 ppm in summer shoot leaves is considered adequate in most world fruit growing regions. In a foliar analysis survey of high yielding pear orchards, the mid summer Zn concentrations varied from 12 to 16 ppm.

Problems associated with the use of foliar analysis for diagnosing boron toxicity in barley
Plant and Soil, 1990The effects of evapotranspiration conditions on the distribution of B in leaves and critical values for B toxicity measured in shoots were examined in solution culture experiments with barley.

The accuracy of suggested soil thresholds for diagnosing calcium (Ca), potassium (K), and phosphorus (P) deficiencies in sugar maple (Acer saccharum Marsh.) stands was tested and updated when possible. With respect to Ca, the combination of Ca saturation of the mineral B horizon (threshold: ≤28.4%), and the humus Ca/magnesium (Mg) ratio (≤5.322) and ...

Effects of rainfall on the use of foliar analysis for diagnosing boron toxicity in field-grown wheat
Plant and Soil, 1992The effect of rain on foliage elemental composition, especially B, was assessed using samples of wheat collected at three harvests from a field trial conducted in soil containing excessive levels of B. Moderate rainfall substantially decreased both the B concentration and content of whole shoots and young leaves.
