Comprehensive diagnostic model for osteosarcoma classification using CT imaging features

open access: yesJournal of Bone Oncology
Objective: The main objective of this study was to create and assess a detailed diagnostic model with an optimizing feature selection algorithm that combines computed tomography (CT) imaging characteristics, demographic information, and genetic markers ...

Generalized Bayesian Method for Diagnostic Classification Models

open access: yesPsychometrika
This study extends the loss function-based parameter estimation method for diagnostic classification models proposed by C. Ma, de la Torre, et al. (2023, Psychometrika) to consider prior knowledge and uncertainty of sampling. To this end, we integrate the loss function-based estimation method with the generalized Bayesian method.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Weakly supervised learning in thymoma histopathology classification: an interpretable approach

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine
IntroductionThymoma classification is challenging due to its diverse morphology. Accurate classification is crucial for diagnosis, but current methods often struggle with complex tumor subtypes.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

AI-driven diagnosis of acute aortic syndrome based on multi-modal information fusion

open access: yesScientific Reports
Acute aortic syndrome (AAS) is a severe cardiovascular disorder with a high mortality rate in the early stage of onset. In this study, the aim was to develop a multi-modal multi-scale fusion (MMMF) model to enhance early identification and classification

Evaluating model estimation processes for diagnostic classification models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Diagnostic classification models (DCMs) are a class of models that define respondent ability on a set of predefined categorical latent variables. In recent years, the popularity of these models has begun to increase. As the community of researchers of practitioners of DCMs grow, it is important to examine the implementation of these models, including ...

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.
