Patient-reported depression measures in cancer: a meta-review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The patient-reported depression measures that perform best in oncology settings have not yet been identified. We did a meta-review to integrate the findings of reviews of more than 50 depression measures used in adults with, or recovering from, any type ...

RaMBat: Accurate identification of medulloblastoma subtypes from diverse data sources with severe batch effects

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
To integrate multiple transcriptomics data with severe batch effects for identifying MB subtypes, we developed a novel and accurate computational method named RaMBat, which leveraged subtype‐specific gene expression ranking information instead of absolute gene expression levels to address batch effects of diverse data sources.

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Does the LDH/Albumin Ratio Bring Novelty? A Comparative Analysis with Inflammatory Indices and Combined Models in Adult-Onset Still’s Disease

open access: yesDiagnostics
Background/Objectives: The objective of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of the lactate dehydrogenase-to-albumin ratio (LAR) in adult-onset Still’s disease (AOSD) and compare it with other inflammatory indices, using patients with fever

Pathogenic Neurofibromatosis type 1 gene variants in tumors of non‐NF1 patients and role of R1276

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Somatic variants of the neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) gene occur across neoplasms without clinical manifestation of the disease NF1. We identified emerging somatic pathogenic NF1 variants and hotspots, for example, at the arginine finger 1276. Those missense variants provide fundamental information about neurofibromin's role in cancer.

VLT Spectroscopy of Globular Clusters in Low Surface Brightness Dwarf Galaxies

open access: yes, 2007
We present VLT/FORS2 spectroscopic observations of globular clusters (GCs) in five low surface brightness (LSB) dwarf galaxies: KK211 and KK221, which are both dwarf spheroidal satellites (dSph) of NGC 5128, dSph KK84 located close to the isolated S0 ...
