Diagnostic value of linear and non-linear analyses of heart rate variability for differentiation of homeostasis in health status, disease state, or death in dogs [PDF]

open access: yesArquivo Brasileiro de Medicina Veterinária e Zootecnia
The autonomic nervous system is closely linked to heart rate and is characterized as a chaotic deterministic system. As the heart is therefore controlled by a non-linear system, these analyzes are being used more and more.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Pentacam top indices for diagnosing subclinical and definite keratoconus

open access: yesJournal of Current Ophthalmology, 2016
Purpose: To determine pachymetric, aberrometric, and topometric indices in patients with definite and subclinical keratoconus and the validity of these indices in the diagnosis of keratoconus.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Comparison of Relative Fit Indices for Diagnostic Model Selection

open access: yes, 2017
The purpose of this study was to thoroughly examine the performance of three information-based fit indices—Akaike’s Information Criterion (AIC), Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC), and sample-size-adjusted BIC (SABIC)—using the log-linear cognitive ...

Observed Score Reliability Indices in Diagnostic Classification Models

open access: yes, 2021
Quantifying the reliability of latent variable estimates in diagnostic classification models has been a difficult topic, complicated by the classification-based nature of these models.

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.
