DOES IT MATTER WHERE I LIVE? COMPARING THE IMPACT OF HOUSING QUALITY ON CHILD DEVELOPMENT IN SLUM AND NON-SLUM AREAS IN GHANA

open access: yesInternational Journal of Child, Youth & Family Studies, 2014
Deteriorating physical characteristics and limited access to social services are said to typify a substantial number of the housing types in Ghana. The impact of these on vulnerable groups such as children remains largely unresearched.

FlexLip: A Controllable Text-to-Lip System

open access: yesSensors, 2022
The task of converting text input into video content is becoming an important topic for synthetic media generation. Several methods have been proposed with some of them reaching close-to-natural performances in constrained tasks. In this paper, we tackle

Gut Microbiota‐Derived Anandamide Mediates the Therapeutic Effects of Urolithin A on Alcohol‐Induced Cognitive and Social Dysfunction via CB1R‐DRD2‐RAP1 Signaling Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that Urolithin A (UA) counteracts alcohol‐induced cognitive and social dysfunction (AICSD) via a gut microbiome‐dependent mechanism. UA‐enriched Bacteroids sartorii and Parabacteroids distasonis elevate anandamide (AEA), which activates the CB1R‐DRD2‐Rap1 signaling cascade to drive synaptic repair and reduce neuroinflammation ...

Decoding the Integrated Stress Response of Pancreatic Cancer: Identifying a Serine‐dependent Tumor Subset Under Metabolic Relationships With CAFs.

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Researchers identified a pancreatic cancer subset with low global protein synthesis but heightened translation of stress‐response genes like ATF4, rendering cells resistant to chemotherapy and apoptosis. These tumors depend on serine and cysteine from surrounding cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs), which shift to produce serine by curbing collagen ...

Hello, It’s GPT-2 - How Can I Help You? Towards the Use of Pretrained Language Models for Task-Oriented Dialogue Systems [PDF]

open access: yesConference on Empirical Methods in Natural Language Processing, 2019
Data scarcity is a long-standing and crucial challenge that hinders quick development of task-oriented dialogue systems across multiple domains: task-oriented dialogue models are expected to learn grammar, syntax, dialogue reasoning, decision making, and

Build it Break it Fix it for Dialogue Safety: Robustness from Adversarial Human Attack [PDF]

open access: yesConference on Empirical Methods in Natural Language Processing, 2019
The detection of offensive language in the context of a dialogue has become an increasingly important application of natural language processing. The detection of trolls in public forums (Galán-García et al., 2016), and the deployment of chatbots in the ...

Dysregulation of the PATZ1/CTCF Balance Silences ZBTB20 to Drive Melanoma Progression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study uncovers a new oncogenic mechanism in melanoma. The transcription factor PATZ1 competes with the architectural protein CTCF for DNA binding, thereby disrupting a specific chromatin loop and silencing the tumor suppressor ZBTB20. This event unleashes the pro‐tumorigenic PMEPA1‐p38‐STAT1 signaling axis, promoting cancer progression.
