Dialysability of Theophylline

Journal of Dialysis, 1978
We have shown that theophylline is highly dialysable with an average dialysis clearance of 76 ml/min approaching 63% of urea clearance with hemodialysis. Implications include dose adjustment during dialysis and efficacy of dialytic technique in the treatment of theophylline intoxication.

AbstractLarge amounts (250 liters) of dialysate fluid are needed for dialysis of patients with chronic kidney diseases. A reduction of these amounts is obtainable by regeneration. With the Redy® system, in which urea is decomposed by the enzyme urease, only 5.5 liters of dialysate is used.
