AMINO ACID-BASED PERITONEAL DIALYSIS SOLUTIONS FOR MALNUTRITION: NEW PERSPECTIVES

open access: yes, 2009
Protein and energy malnutrition is frequently found in patients on maintenance dialysis and is associated with an increased risk of death. Among a variety of factors involved in the development of protein and energy malnutrition, such as acidosis ...

The pathophysiology of fluid removal during haemodialysis: implications for blood volume monitoring and determination of dry weight.

open access: yes, 2007
The aim of the research was to characterise the pathophysiology of ultrafiltration (UF) during haemodialysis (HD) using a range of assessment tools. The hypothesis was that objective monitoring would facilitate accurate estimation of dry weight (DW) and ...

Infusible Extracellular Matrix Biomaterial Enhances Cell‐Specific Pro‐Repair Responses Following Acute Myocardial Infarction

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
We measure the cell‐specific responses of administering infusible ECM (iECM) in acute myocardial infarction (MI) across multiple timepoints. Using single‐nucleus RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomics, we measure macrophage activation, fibroblast remodeling, increased vascular development, lymphangiogenesis, cardioprotection, and neurogenesis ...

Treatment of diabetes mellitus in dialysis patients

open access: yesТерапевтический архив, 2011
Diabetes mellitus is a key cause of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in developed contries. Disorders of glucose metabolism regulation in CKD are explained by insulin resistance, decreased insulin clearance, weak hormonal response to hypoglycemia.

Packed Hydrogel Microfibers as Scaffolds Supporting Dynamic Cellular Behavior and Biomaterial Inks in 3D Printing

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Packed hydrogel microfiber (PHM) materials consist of flexible and high aspect ratio hydrogel components that, as a bulk material, are simultaneously mechanically robust and dynamic. Cells cultured in or on PHM scaffolds can be influenced by topographical cues or interact with a dynamic environment that permits cell spreading and multicellular ...

Modular Control of PEG‐Poly(2‐Oxazoline) Co‐Assembly Enables Tunable Aggregate Properties for Intraocular Pressure Management

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A thermo‐responsive poly(2‐oxazoline)‐based injectable formulation is developed to modulate intraocular pressure (IOP) in both normal and hypotonic eyes. By adjusting the PEG content, the aggregation behavior is finely tuned, enabling IOP elevation without long‐term deposition.

Intraperitoneal enalapril ameliorates morphologic changes induced by hypertonic peritoneal dialysis solutions in rat peritoneum.

open access: yes, 2004
Peritoneal fibrosis (PF) is one of the most serious causes of technique failure in long-term peritoneal dialysis (PD). Although the mechanisms responsible for the genesis of PF are not well understood, angiotensin II is known to promote fibrosis and ...

Systemic and Local Inflammation in Peritoneal Dialysis: Mechanisms, Biomarkers and Effects on Outcome

open access: yes, 2009
Thanks to the technological development in peritoneal dialysis (PD) during the last three decades, the most important problem nowadays for the nephrologists is the maintenance of the long-term function of the peritoneal membrane. Although PD may exert an

Flash Assembloids: A Rapid Biofabrication of a Platform for Modeling Early Glioblastoma Invasion at the Glioblastoma–Brain Organoid Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a bioengineered assembloid (ASM) system combining glioblastoma (GBM) cells in oxidized alginate (OA) microgels with dorsal organoids (DOs). This model simulates brain tumor‐host interactions, revealing enhanced GBM invasion, altered gene expression, and aggressive infiltration patterns, demonstrating ASM as a valuable platform for ...
